The driver stuck to them manfully for some distance at the imminent risk ef his life. Finally the horses threw him on the bank at one side of the road, and went thundering down the hill. Coming to the bottom the shafter stumbled and fell. The impetus, however, was ■so great that team and dray went shooting aoross the road and through Mr Pierce's fence, whose house is directly opposite the hill. Here the fallen shafter turned a complete somersault, breaking his baok. Fortunately the leaders went went one each side of a large tree growing in the garden, whioh brought the whole ooncern to a dead stop, but the wood went fifing in all directions. Had it not been for the tree the greater portion of the load would have gone through Mr Pierce's front window, and probably team, load, and all would haye been forced agiinst the front of the house. The shafter, whioh lived only a few minutes, was quickly extricated, taken away, and buried. The other horses were not hurt, while the dray only suffered to the extent of the point of the shaft being broken.

The first lot was to arrive in London ftn the day the letter was written :-^ c You did well to put it into the cool chsmbtr, a.B had you not the chances are that the closeness and heat of the vessel closed up, would have hurt it very much. I hope it will turn, out wall; if sweet and mild it is sure to do so, if it be salty or stroag it will be quite the opposite. The butter I bad from CUre, ia Ireland, last week cost me U£d, exclusive of carriage. If yours be firstclass, and as it will be grass made, it might bring rather more, but this depends all on qmlity, and if very good the disposal is an easy matter. You must be very careful in shipping tilt experience gives you more light." We expect to give the result of the experiment in an early issue after arrival of next mail.
