London, Feb. 22, In bis Speech on the Address-in-Reply in the House of Commons, Mr Gladstone said the party which ho led did not desire that the Government should prematurely disclose what acdon they were taking in consequence of the disturbed state of Europe. He hoped that England would refrain from engaging in war unless the real interests and true honor of Great Bri ain demanded it. Ho expressed sorrow at (he serious illness of the Crown Price of Germany. The Right Hon, W. H. Smith stated that at the present time the most cordial relations existed between England and Prance. Feb. 24. In the House of Commons Sir James Fergusson, Onder-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, made a statement in connection with the recent expulsion of the Rev. Mr Jones from the New Hebrides, The French Government declare that the reason Mr Jones was expelled was on account of his activity in propagating a proposal to have the group annexed to Australia, despite the warning given him by the French authorities. In the House of Lords the Marquis of Salisbury said that a conference of the Powers on the Bulgarian question was unnecessary ; that diplomacy should suffice to bring about a settlement of the question. Lord Salisbury said further that it would be a disgrace to Europe if war resulted over such a question, Feb. 28. The Bill introduced in the House of Commons by Mr Parnell authorises judges to reduce the rents or to postpone the time under which payment may be made. It also extends the period of redemption to three months in case of tenants who may bo evicted. The members of the House of Commons have decided to begin business is* 3 o’clock in the afternoon, and to ?it not later than 1 o’clock in the morning.
