AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. XIMARU. Mr R. R, Guinnes (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending Saturday, Feb. 25<h, as fo 1 - low» ;
Cattle —Tbe supply of beef throughout the district is how plentiful. 15s per 1001 b is about present quotation, which we regret to say is a ruinous price t» producers. Sheep—Fat are plentiful, and few sales have been effected at the local yards. In store sheep during the week there has been an increased demand at the Washdyke, business showing more spirit, every lot changing hands at an advance on late rates, and several buyers could not be supplied. We sold 580 2-tooth crossbreds on account of Messrs Garrick and Oowlishaw at 5s 7d. In private sales the market has displayed considerable animation, both for prime quality sheep fit for export, 2 and 4-tooth crossbreds, and good store merino wethers. We have disposed of 5000 of various sorts as follows:—900 freezers, 500 ditto delivered at the Timaru works, and 500 ditto delivered at the Oamaru works, 600 store 4-tooth crossbred wethers, 1500 ditto 2,4, and 6-tooth merino wethers, 1000 ditto 4,6, and 8-tooth merino wethers at satisfactory prices to the owners, and have large lines in treaty for,
Sheepskins—On Wednesday last at our usual fortnightly sale there was a fair attendance of the trade, and prices were slightly better. Our total sales privately and by auction amount to 2428 shins and pelts, which realised as followsßest factory crossbreds Is 9d to 2s 2d, the latter price being obtained for an exceptionally grand line of 500. Butchers, lOd, Is, Is 3d, to Is 6d; country woolly skins, 4|-d to 5d per lb ; do pelts, (id to 9d. Hides —The market remains active. We have quitted a large number at late quotations, viz ; 60lb and over 4d, 50lb to 60lb 3id to 3fd, light and inferior 2|d to 3d, cut and slippy 2d per lb.
ENGLISH MARKETS,

The quantity of wheat nfl'int for the United Kingdom is 1,690,000 quarters. and for the Continent 17 0,000 quarters, Peb. 24. A thousand quarters of Australian wheat has been sold at 30-5. Frozen Moat—Mutton market has a hardening tendency, and stocks are decreasing. New Zealand mutton, weighing 601 b to 651 b per carcase, is worth per lb, and Umb 6f(l per lb. New Zealand wheat, long berry, is realising 33s 6d to 345, Leather is advancing, Metals are quiet without any apparent change. At the colonial wool auctioGS, 10,800 ba'es were offered. The highest price quoted for New Zealand butter is 112 a, and the lowest 30s, Cheese is quoted at from 34s to 50s.
Fob, 26.
The wool Bales hare closed firm, and prices generally arc about level with those obtained at the December sales, except in the case of good greasy combing and fine crossbreds, which were slightly higher, while low faulty merino are Id to Id better. During the series 270.000 bales were catalogued, of which number 2 7,000 were withdrawn. 158.000 bales were purchased for export.
