A boy named J. JB. Whitewood, aged 14 years, son of on engine driver, was drowned in a water-hole at Match, near Greylown North, yesterday, A sack race for £IOO and the championship of New Zealand, 100yds, 200yds, and 300yds, between H. Kennard, ofßrunnerton, and N. Austin, of Oamaru, took place at Taylorsville, West Coast, on Saturday, and resulted in an easy win for the Oamaru man.
A Committee has been appointed to inquire into the general management of the Greymouth Harbor Board, and it commenced its work yesterday.
A man named Henrickson was killed at Hunterville (Auckland) on Friday by a fall of earth.
The licensing electisn for the Cook wardWellington, resulted in the return of the publicans’ candidates. A surfaceman employed on the railway, named Jeffries, was killed at Dunedin on Friday by one of the trains to the racecourse. It appears he was walking along the line just as the train was approaching, and in a thoughtless moment stepped on the adjoining line in front of the engine, and before he could get out of the way the train was upon him. Both legs were completely cut off, and he died shortly afterwards.

A girl named Margaret Powell died very suddenly at Dunedin on Sunday. Apoplexy is said to be the causa of death.
