SCENE IN PARLIAMENT.
Sydney, Feb. 15,
During the discussion in the Assembly last evening on the proposal to extend the New South Wales railway to Broken Hill silver mines, the notorious Mr McElbone, member for Upper Hunter, in the course of his remarks, deuouojed some of the Companies, including the White Rock Silver Mining Company, jusl floated with a capital of a million, as swindles, Mr. Gr. McL. Matheson, another member, said that he was interested in the Company particularly referred to. and called Mr McElhone “ a liar,” whereupon Mr McElhone struck him in the face. A fight afterwards took place in the smoking-room, and the aggressor was soundly drubbed. In the Assembly this afternoon the dispute between Mr McElhone and Mr Matheson cropped up, when the latter announced that he intended to enter an action against the member for the Upper Hunter, claiming £IO,OOO damages, for his having characterised the White [lock Silver Mining Company a swindle.*
