MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, oo Friday, the 17<h inst. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), and Messrs R. Mackay, C. G. Tripp, and G. J. Dendstoun. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read From Messrs Wilson and Sons, Christchurch, asking at what price the Board would sell their stonecrueher. From the Union Bank of Australia, Timaru, in reference to the renewal of their fixed deposits. From the Geraldine County Council, in reply to the Board’s letter in reference to the crossing of the water-race on the road at Tripp’s cutting, stating that the letter had been read and ordered to be laid on the table. From the Bank of New Zealand, Timaru, acknowledging the receipt of £IOO 14s 4d, for credit of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. MISCELLANEOUS. The Clerk was directed to apply to the Manager of the Springfield Pottery Works, for price of drain pipes delivered at Rangitata. Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Tripp, and carried—“ That notice be given to Mi Thew to grub up and clear off all goras from read adjoining all land in his occupation. Permission was granted to Mr Mackay to fonca off the abandoned road near Baddon’s section at Raincliff.

Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Dennistoun, and carried -“That a letter be written to the Minister for Lands, calling the attention of the Government to the fact that damage is being done to some of the forests by grass fires being lighted during the summer months, one forest in particular in this neighborhood at Mesopotamia being almost entirely destroyed. Government land has been nearly destroyed, and damage done in Raukapuka, Peel Forest, and other places.” Resolved—“ That tenders be called for melalling the newly-formed road near Raincliff.”

After passing accounts lo the amount of £64 Ss ICd the Board adjourned.
