The New York World tells an exti aordinary story which has just come t' light of a woman who has been for n my months employed on a Conn cticut railway, in a man’s disguise, a . an engine driver. She is, the d rrative says, an English girl named I attie Morgan, who in I nerica about two years ago. While li ing in London she was in love with a i engine driver on the “Flying S otchman ” train between London and the North, and with the assistance of her sweetheart in order to be near him, she disguised herself and got a post as stoker on the engine, and had done the work for a year when he (the young man) was killed on the line. In her grief Mattie let her sex be known, and the result was that she fled to the United States. When her money was done she disguised herself again and got a place as fireman on a railway; and after serving two years she was promoted to engine driver of a night mail train. This post she held for some time, but one or two accidents—in two of which her engine ran down and killed men on the line—preyed upon her and she fell ill. Then she gave up her job for good and all, and resumed woman’s dress, and now it is stated she ,is about to be married to a factory engineer. Such is the story.. .It,-is added that “ Mattie is about 24 years old. She has light colored banged hair, dark eyes and is quite handsome.
