SOUTH RANGITATA PUBLIC SCHOOL.

The annual treat in connection with this school was held at the schoolground on Friday last. The day being being beautifully fine most of the children attending the school were present. A considerable number of parents and friends also attended. Outdoor games— racing, skipping, ring, and a number of others—were indulged in and heartily enjoyed. Ihe prizes for the racing and other contests comprised both the useful and ornamental—toys, books, buttercoolers, and other articles being distributed. An abundance of provisions, lollies, etc., had been provided, and the little ones were regaled with a substantial tea. A table was also laid in the schoolroom for the older folk, where a comfortable meal could be obtained. The majority of the male population being busy harvesting the duty of superintending the day’s arrangements fell principally upon the ladies. Among those who took a prominent part in attending to those present were Mesdames Taylor and McLeod, the Misses Bisset (3) and McLeod, and Mr McLeod. The provisions, which were of especially good quality, were supplied by Mr T. Barr, Mr Bisset kindly gave an ample supply of fruit, which was thoroughly appreciated. A dance was held in the evening, to which a sufficient number stayed to make it enjoyable, without uncomfortably crowding of the room. Mr Colville supplied the music, Mr Bisset making an efficient M.C. Dancing was continued till Saturday was well in.
