MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Board was held in the £>oad Board office on Friday, the 20th inst. Present— Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs E. Thew, 0. G. Tripp, and G, J. Dennistoun. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. MINUTES. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read:— From the Secretary to the Treasury, Wellington, intimating that the Government would cease paying rates upon Crown and Native lands after the 21st March of the present year. From the Geraldine County Council, requesting the payment of the Board’s subsidy to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for the half year ending the 31st March.— The account was. passed for payment. From Messrs White and Co., forwarding documents for signature by the Chairman relative to exchange of road lines in the district.—The deeds were signed and ordered to be returned to Messrs White and Co. From Mr Fussell, Land Office, in reference to the owner and situation of section No. 35713. From the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, offering to give the land for a new road at the north end of Peel Forest in exchange for that part of the old road abandoned.—The offer was accepted with the thanks of the Board. From the Geraldine County Council, forwarding a copy of the resolution in reference to the crossing of the waterrace over the road at Tripp’s cutting. From Mr W. V. Miller, C. 8., offering to undertake professional work for the Board. overseer's report. The Overseer’s report was read, and the following was ordered to be attended to:—(1) To straighten and widen the creek in Mr Dennistoun’s paddock below the boundary road, so as to relieve the water on the ford; (2) To have the drains along the Main road at Peel Forest cleaned out; (8) To have all plants of gorse or
Bweetbriar growing on the roads grubbed up; (4) To put in a groin ot large boulders at the north end or the stockbridge over the North Opuha at Clayton. To write to the Q-eraldme County Council, calling attention to the state of the ford across the road at Tripp’s cutting, and requesting that certain improvements be made for the safety of traffic.
