FATAL ACCIDENT.
In the hack race at Ahnurii,' near Greyniouth, on Thursday, Fairy, vyith. R. Barton riding, fell when five or six chains from the sinning post. ■ Birton was in the act of rising, having hold of the-bridle, <vhen anotlier horse came up, knocking or kicking him oyer. Ho was seen to: roll over, but : iifver rose afier.iyarda. After being carried to the booth, he, remained unconscious for some time. Death ensued four hours afterwards apparently without pain. lie was qnile conscious at (ho ,lasr Dece used was a resident of Hoki'ika, and leaxes a wife and farail.y.
