Government has not yet decided whether the colony shall be represented at the Postal Conference in Sydney, The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. have received a telegram from their London office that their annnal report has been issued. Tbe directors recommend a dividend and a bonus equal to 15 per cent as in previous yeara, carrying forward £15,053. The amount brought forward from the previous year was £3626.
The warships Nelson, Rapid, Diamond, and Colliope, left Auckland ou Thursday afternoon at 3.30 tor Wellington, whence they will proceed to Sydney. H.M.S. Raien a iled on Wednesday for the New Hebrides lo relieve H.M.S. Swinger, which is expected to come en te Auckland.
The Tangatorau Hotel at North Wairoa was burnt down on Tuesday last. The building was insured for £750. A working man named Gully was killed while bush felling at IVoodvilla on Wednesday evening. He leaves a wife and two children.
A boj named McTaggart, living at the Gorge, Woodville, received severe injuries to his face on Wednesday night while plating with blasting powder. The annual examination of teachers, and also the examinations for the Civil Service, .will be commenced on Monday. One thousand and fifty candidates have an* nounosd their intention of competing.
The Cabinet will meet about the end of next week.
The boxing contest for the championship of New Zealand and £SO a aide between Laing and Matthews, took place at Wanganui on Thursday night at the drill hall, which was densoly packed. Laing gained an eaay victery after four rounds. The Order-in-Connsil raising the school age of children, and declining to retain children at the schools after passing the sixth standard, baa been revoked.
