Joihus Millar went to an inanrance company to get a policy on one of hie Teasels that waa about to aail from the Wait Indiea to Hew York with a valuable cargo. She iniuranea waa heavy, and ao waa the premium, became the obis waa not rated very well at Hoyd’e. Mr Miller paid the premium, and waa told to call in a day or two for the policy. He called aereral timea, but the clerk alwaya had aoma ezcnae to iff er. The Preeidenthad not signed the policy, but would do ao when he oame in, and the document would be cent round in a day or ao. One morning a man came to Hr Miller, after a breathleaa ride on relaya of horaea from near Montawk, and reported the ship a total wreck on Montawk Point. Mr Miller went to the inanranee office and laid, in a loud voice, to the clerk, "Ton needn’t mind about the policy. I’ve heard from _my abip. You can give me back my premium money.” Before the clerk could think what to aay the Preaident of the company stepped out from hia private office, with the policy in bia hand, laying j “ I’m eorry, Mr Miller, but your policy baa been aignei and waiting for yon two or three daya. I meant to have lent it to yon, but it waa lying under eoma papers on my deik.” Mr Miller took the document and noticed that tha ink of tha signature waa not dry. Ai he turned to go, he laid: “ I’ve heard from my ship. She’* cone to pieces on tha Montawk Point, a total foil.”
