The Si'iP l *® lll6 Court Criminal Sessions commenced this morning before Mr Justin Richmond. There is no case of a serious nature. The charge to the Grand Jury contained nothing of interest..,,. .. . _ ' Dunedin, Jan. 4. In charging the Gffand Jury, Judge ■Williams, referring to the Kaitangata arson case, said that by an extraordinary misconception on the part of the committing Magistrate the wife of the accused had given evidence, but she was clearly incompetent. In » case under the “ Destitute Persons Act ” there was, he said, considerable doubt as to whether under the Statute the wife’s evidence was properly receivable, but ■ the question wan -arguable.—Fred. Flint, for obtaining money under false pretences, got two years; 'i homas Pepperell three months ior forgery ; James Marshall three years for hotisebrcaking; Hugh Anderson, for attempted suicide, ordered to come up for sentence when required; Alfred Palmer, for housebreaking, wan committed to the Caversham Indus - trial School.
