CRICKET.

A match was played yesterday afternoon between a team composed of eight members of the Lynch Bellringers Company with four of the townspeople, and an eleven of the Temuka Cricket Club. The afternoon was fine and a very enjoyable game took place resulting in a win for the local cl üb. The wicket was not in the best of order, although some little trouble had been taken to prepare it. Gilpin, for the Bellringers, went in first, and playing a very careful ~ innings carried his bat. His score of 16 was made up of 3 twos and 10 singles, H. Lynch, the captain of the team, played with great freedom, but was given out leg before wicket, when he had put together 6. ?6r Temuka, Hayhurst bowled capitally, taking 6 wickets. Heap and Ogilvie also bowled well* Ogilvie for . Temuka secured 17 runs, made up of 5 twos and 7 singles. He was neatly caught by Gilpin, Mendelson put together 6 very freely, and Sinclair contributed 10 before being bowled by Gilpin; Bedford’s innings of 9 was characterised by capital form, but he unfortunately snicked one Into H, Lynch’s hands. The tail end of the team went out in a disastrous manner* The fielding of both sides was loose, displaying evident want of practice.
