A NEW BYBDEM OP GOYEBNMHNT. Wbilihgtoh, Deo. 19. A meeting of members, convened by Major Steward and Dr Hodgkinton, was held this morning to oomider tho desirableness of an alteration in the present form of party government and parliamentary procedure. Major Steward occupied the chair, and the following gentlemen were also present:—Sir Gi. Grey, Messrs Anderson, Withy, Monk, Buxton, Newman, Hodgkinson, Taylor, Cowan, Grimmond, B, Bseves, Blake, Pratt, Samuel, Perceval, Tanner, Merchant, Lawry, Levestam and Feldwiok, The Chairman ex plained the meeting had been called for no ulterior party purpose but simply to effect an improvement in the present system of government. He laid before tho meeting a series of printed suggestions which had been drawn up, and, after the matter had bean fully discussed, the following resolutions wore agreed to“ That this mooting ! generally is of opinion that it ia desirable to consider Whether a'scheme cannot be devised whereby the admitted evils of tho present system of government and parliamentary procedure may be remedied }" “ That the Chairman, Dr Hodgkinson, and Mr Tanner be appointed a Committee to formulate propose to be submitted to a meeting to be called by such Committee during the first peek of next session ; ” “ That those members present bring the subject before their con- I "tkuents during the recess."--Ashburton | Guardian, j
