AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, D c c. 12. Dalgety and Co., Limited, held their usual weekly sale of wool to-day, The rooms were largely attended and lively competition was elicited for all lots. The prices all round were rather better than last week. The catalogue comprised 1285 bales, whereof 1100 were quitted at excellent prices. Good greasy realised lOd per lb ; medium to good, 8d per lb to ff|d ; inferior to medium, 6d to 7fd ; crossbred, superior quality, lOd ; medium to good, 8d to 9£d ; coarse, 6-|d to 7| 1 ; washed merino, Dec. 13.
The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, of New Zealand, reports on the local grain market as follows : Shipping wheat is dull and drooping at 3s 7d to 3s 8d per bushel. Malting barley is 4s to ss, but quotations are nominal. New Zealand oafs, feed sorts, are quiet at 2s 9d to 2s 10J. Milling descriptions meet with moderate enquiry at 2s lOd to 2s lid. New Zealand oats, under bond, are 2s Id to 2s 2d. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Dec. 12. The hardening tendency of the metal market continues. Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in the Clyde, has advanced 3s per ton, and is now quoted at 475. Bieadstuffs aud tallow are uuchanged.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated December 10th 1887 \Vool—The sales closed firmly this day at the level of last sales.
