ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Dec. 11. Five of the seven moonlighters committed for trial on the charge of killing Head Constable Whelhan, near Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, during a raid made by a gang on (he house of Sexnn, a farmer, have been sentenced to terms of imprisonment varying from five to seven years. In this case the raid was arranged by the informer Colimn, in order to bring his companions into the bands of the police. President Cleveland’s policy, as enunciated in bis recent message to Congress, is winning him much support. At the banquet given by the Unionists at West minster a resolution was passed expressing confidence in Lord Hartmgton as lender of the Unionist party. In the coarse of his reply, Lord Hartingtou said the Unionists were not ashamed to co-operate with Lord Salisbury, and that, joining Mr Gladstone would mean (be betrayal of England, A largo meeting of those interested ( in the' Home industries protested against the British industries being ruined by foreign competition, and resolved to agitate for the imposition of moderate duties.

AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, Dec. 32, A murderous attack was made upon a stationmaster at Glen Huntley, a small station beyond Caulfield, on Saturday last, A man who had purchased a ticket violently assaulted the stationmaster, and the latter was found by the guard lying insensible with his skull fractured, and in a critical condition. The man was arrested, and upon being searched the keys of the station and safe were found upon him, but he had only a small sum of money in his possession,

FRENCH AFFAIRS. Paris, Dec. 10. M. Fallieres has withdrawn from the task of forming a Ministry, as be is unable to effect a union of Moderate and Republic parties. Dec, 12, The injuries sustained by M. Ferry in the recent attack upon him by Audertin have proved of a more serious nature than at first conjectured, the symptoms having become less favorable. London, Dec. 11. M. Fallieres having undertaken the formation of a Ministry, will virtually mean a revival of M. Rouvier’s Cabinet. Dec, 12, Aubertin, the man who fired at M. Ferry on Friday, is thought to be insane. He threatens to reveal his associates unless M. Kouvier and M. Ferron are promptly killed. M. Ferry is suffering very much from a contused wound near the heart, the result of the shot fired by Aubertin.
