AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of thii Board was held lait evening. Present—-Messrs Lee, (Chairman) Story, Edgier and Austin. MXMDTHI. The minutes of the previous regular meet* lug and of a ipecial meeting were read and confirmed. coßßsaroionroß. Oorreepondence was received— From the Crown Land* Office in reply to one from the Board re waste land*, stating * that there ii no power to grant endowments beyond the limit fixed by the Act, to give effect to which arrangement! are now in progrees."—Acknowledged, Prom the Colonial Secretary acknowledging receipt of a communication from the Board condemning the proposal to separate tne Waimata County from the S.O. Hospital and Charitable Aid District.—Ac* knowledged, otbbbbbb’s bbboet. The overseer's report was read as follows: To the Chairman and Commissioners Arowhenna Town Board. Gebxlbkbn — Acting on your instructions, I arranged for the alteration of one of the Board's cottages, and for its fitting up as an office. The work is nearly completed, and the office can be utilised during the ensuing month. During the past month one man has been engaged for 14 days in cleaning water-tables and drains, and repairing culverts. The concrete culvert near Mrs Mackenzie's was obstructed by a block of concrete falling across it. This has been replaced in its position, and the culvert and dram cleaned. The pipes at the junction of Sludholmo Street have been cleaned out, and the beads protected by wooden frames. The culverts at Gamaok Street have been repaired. Tbs services of one man with horses, drays, etc., hare been secured for the work required ia Maud Street, which is being reformed. In order to keep the horses employed two extra hands wars engaged to fill earth. Tenders have been invited forr carting shingle for Maud Street, and will bs considered this evening. The lease of reserves 2741 and 1705 have been duly signed by Mr Fawdray. A. W. Gi|». TMB 018108, The Clerk reported that he had arranged for the purchase of a safe, and on the motion of Mr Austin seconded by Mr Edgeler his action was approved of. The clerk was instructed to arrange for the necessary furniture for the office. XX2ISBBS. Four tenders were received for shingling Maude street. Two contractors tendered at the same price and lots being drawn, that of Mr W, Fletcher was accepted, at the rate of B|d per yard, A4OOVBIS. Accounts amounting to £2l 8i 6d were Passed for payment. XIEOBIiLAKBOTTS. Some discussion took placo as to the utilising the gravel reserves and other lands vested in the Board, and it was agreed that the Clerk should enquire into the matter, and invite tenders for the lease of such as are available. Tenders to be in by next Board day. The question of clearing sornh off Green street was deferred for future consideration. It waa resolved that all rates and rents unpaid by the 10th of January be sued for. The Clerk was instructed to arrange for a supply of dog eollars from the contractor of the Oonnty Council. Some minor mattere were discussed and the Board adjourned.
