AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows : A steadily increasing improvement in business is to be noted, and the constriction in the money market will no doubt be greatly relieved as soon as wool growers lift their cash after the approaching sales. A much more cheerful tone prevails and a greater readiness to enter into legitimate speculations. The outlook for the future, on the whole, is much better than it has been for a year or two. Pleasant Point Sale—Last Monday’s sale was one of the best and most successful that has been held in these yards for nearly two years. 1960 sheep, all farmers’ lots, besides a fair lot of cattle and pigs, were penned, and the attendance of farmers, butchers, and dealers in quest of stock made the sale pass off briskly, every lot drawing a fair amount of competition. Por sheep especially the market was a good one, only one small lot of shorn hoggets being turned out unsold, but for cattle it was not so good a sale as the last one. He sold 180 shorn crossbred ewes and lambs at ss, 58 at 6s Id, 26 hoggets at 6s, 65 ewes and hoggets at 6s 7d, 270 quarterbreds at 7s, 73 fat ewes at 7s 3d, 271 half-bred ewes and wethers at 9s, 461 hoggets at 9s lid, 124 ewes and wethers at 9s 6d, 116 2 and 4-tooth hoggets at 9s lOd, 126 ewes with lambs 10s, and 130 4-tooth wethers at 10s 6d. In cattle he sold 17 steers and heifers at £1 9s, 4 good forwards at £4 15s, and 9 at £4 17s 6d, 6 yearlings at 21s, and 2 cows at 30s. Pigs, 5 at from 10s to 17s. Washdyke Yards —He has to report the sale of 6 pigs at 32s 6d, 7 cows in milk at £4 10s, 10 heifers at £3 and 16 yearlings at £llos, 70 shorn hoggets at 6s lOd, 40 do at 7s 6d, and 60 do at 6s Id.

Sheepskins—He sold at his last sale crossbreds at Is 6d to ss; merinos, 2s 5d to 3s 8d; pelts, Id; lambs, 6d; hides, 2id to 4d. Pat at last quotations.

Country Sales—On Wednesday he held a sale at Mr Maze’s farm, near Pleasant Point. There was a large attendance of farmers from all parts of the district, and the sale was in all respects of a most satisfactory character, biddings coming briskly and excellent prices being maintained. The equity of redemption of the farm of 83 acres, on which a mortgage and interest of £312 exists, brought £75. The coaching stallion Bobbie Burns brought £3O, and the Clydesdale Young Vanquisher £32 10s, roan filly £2O, grey gelding Jack £2O, bay filly £lB, white mare £l2, bay hack filly £7, hack mare £5, and bay mare Kate £6. 7 cows sold at £3l2s 6d, waggon £3O, McCormick reaper and binder £l7, plough, filter, harrows, etc., at full values.
