The Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce has resolved to recommend that the Railway Board Sill now before Parliament be deferred till next session to give the commercial community time to consider the provisions. The Superintendent of the Fire Brigade in a report to the Auckland Council on electric lighting insists that wires be carried under ground to obviate risk of accident. Mr Levin, Chairman of the Manawatu Railway Company, presented a bronae medal of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia to William Truman, engine driver on the line, in recognition of his having saved the life of a child about 18 months old on the Wairarapa line two years ago by jumping off an engine going 9 miles an hour and pulling the child clear of the rails. W. 0, Nation, of Wairarapa, has laid a counter information against Henry Anderson, of Wellington, charging him with criminal libel. The alleged libel was published in the Wairarapa Observer. Both Nation and Anderson are journalists. The obstruction on the Wellington and Masterton line has been cleared. The body of a mao named Rogers, a laborer, was found in the Avon near the Stanmore bridge on Thursday morning. There were no marks of violence on it. The decsaaod bad been somewhat addicted to drink.
