From Mr William Palmer, applying lor permission to deepen a drain near his and Mr Badham’s property. —The Board could not accede to the application. otirsekr's report. The Overseer’s report was read as Mows:— I have to report for the past month as follows: Tenders have been invited for deepen* Ing drains near Mr F. H. Barker’s, and for opening Frahcis Street, Eangitata. - Owing to the wet weather very little 'progress has been made with contracts and other works in hand.

The rivers having been flooded, a good deal of work has been necessary on the various fords and crossings. Part of the approaches to the bridge over Cooper’s Greek, by Badham’s, has been washed away. To keep the road available for traffic the breach at each end of the bridge has been temporarily bridged. This bridge is too low to take the flood water of the creek, and during the last flood the water overflowed the deck and north approach. A concrete culvert by Parke’s has given and way sunk at one end. A new culvert is required to replace this one. The cost will probably will be £ —. . The'approach to the footbridge over the Waihi Creek on the Geraldine road has been partly washed away. A breach 20ft. wide has been made at the end of the Temuka footbridge, and one of the piles driven above has been washed out.

.Re Mr Clark’s Letter—The water from ' Rhodes's Greek has been diverted from its natural course and taken down the drain on the west side of Bolleston’s roaid, and than down the Canal drain. The bottom of the drain where the creek is turned is one foot higher than the bottom of the creek about one chain east, of the road; consequently the water is to some extent dammed back on reserve 0119. During heavy rains water runs over the road where the creek has been turned, and has three or four times during the last twelve months washed the shingle off tba road. The culvert across the road at the vest end of the Canal drain is too high in the bottom to allow the drain on the west side of Bolleston’s read to be deepened so as to remedy the matter. The only other way is to let the water from Rhodes's Greek across the road and into its natural course. This would probably cost £—. Regarding the other water-course, Ido not think that in its present state it would take the ordinary drainage any better than the drain on the roadside does, although it would no doubt ease the drain on the west side of the road during heavy rain if xb was opened across the road.

es Mr Snell’s Application—To make a track of any service to Mr Snell five chains of formation and a crossing, over a creek would be required. The total cost would probably be £ —. lit Gullies Waitohi and Point Road— The only course 1 can suggest regarding the gullies referred to in Mr Galbraith’s letter is to lower the road at each place and let the pipes remain l as they ace.

This could be done for £—, but would not be near so satisfactory as culverts. Be Mr Woodley’s Application for Crossing over Toner’s Drain—l find that Mr Woodley has to go nearly three quarters of a mile to get access to his section. If the Board decide to grant him a crossing, I would recommend that a 3ft. barrel culvert be put In the drain. The coat would not exceed the price of the timber, as Mr Woodley is willing to do all carting required. The timber to redeok Green Hayes and Guild’s bridges has been obtained, and is now on the ground. F. Archer. It was resolved to leave the repairs of the bridge over Cooper’s Creek to the Overseer. Be Culvert at Parke’s—lt was decided to invite tenders for replacing this. The Overseer was instructed to repair the breach at the Temuka footbridge as he deems best. Be Mr Clark’s application—lt was decided to lower the culvert, and the Overseer to undertake the work when practicable. It was agreed to carry out the work required by Mr Snell on the terms suggested. The Overseer was instructed to attend to the work required by Mr Galbraith. Mr Woodley’s application was left to the Overseer to deal with. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted : Contract No. 23—Clearing drain near Barker’s: W. Cox, £l4. Three tenders were received. No. 24—Opening up drain, South Rangitata: M. Sheehan, £B. Three tenders were received. The Board then rose.
