AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIJIAHD. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday as follows: — Horses —At the Timaru Hosse Bazaar, on the 26th inst., our entry was an average one, but business was dull and only a few sales were effected, To-day at auction and privately we disposed of over half our entry, and have buyers for good young draughts who did not get their wants supplied. Our sales are Medium to good, £ls to £24 ; inferior and aged, £5 to £l2; hackneys and light harness horses, medium to good, £l2 to £2B; light and weedy, £4 to £lO. Cattle—At St. Andrews, Makikihi, and Washdyke, there has been a considerable business doing in both fat and stores., and prices obtained for the latter have been favorable to the sellers, but beef cannot be quoted at more than 18s per lOOlbs. At auction and privately we sold 42 head cattle at quotation, and 120 head storseat— For calves, 16s; yearlings, 21s to 255; two-year-olds, 47s 6d to 555; three-year-old steers, up to £5 4s; calves and milkers, £3 10s to £6 ss. Sheep —The bad state of the weather for the last two weeks has retarded shearing very much, and in consequence the entries at the various sales have been small. At St. Andrews, on the 22nd ult,, we sold 200 hoggets at 5s 4d, 100 fat ewes at 7s, 90 ewes and Jambs at 9s Id. At Washdyke, on the 24th ult., we placed 184 crossbred ewes and wethers at 8s 3d, and on the Ist inst., 20 shorn wethers at 8s lid, 31 ewes at 8s 4d, 83 at 7s lid, 31 wethers in wool 11s, and (privately) we have sold 200 fat ewes, 433 ewes with lambs, 1294 hoggets, and 79 fat lambs. Skins—At our regular sale _on Wednesday our catalogue comprised over 1500 skins. Buyers were well represented, but prices were a shade under former rates. Best butchers crossbreds fetched from 4s lOd to 5s 4d; country skins in proportion; and pelts, 2d to 4d; lambs, 6d to lOd; dry merinos, s*d per lb. Hides are in good demand. We have sold 60 at—For well flayed, over 60lbs, 4d; 50lbs to 60lbs, 3£d per lb ; under 501bs, 2|d to 3d per lb. Tallow—We have placed several small consignments of rough fab at from 6s to 9s per cwt.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS,

Sydney, Deo. 2. There is very little alteration in the prices of grain. New Zealand wheat is worth 3s to 3s 3d per bushel. New Zealand oats fetch Is lid to 2s Id per bushel, as compared with Is lOd to 2s 2d last week. Maize is slightly weaker, and realises 3s lOd to 4s per 56lbs. The supply of potatoes is well kept up, and 25s per ton is all that can be obtained. Adelaide, Dsc. 2. Shipping wheat is firm, at 3s 6d per bushel. Flour—Adelaide town brands, £9 to £9 5s per ton ; country brands, £8 5s to £8 10s. Freights to London for wool, per steamer—Scoured wool, f d per lb j greasy, |d. Per sailing vessels—Scoured, U ■ greasy wool, |d per lb.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

London, Drc. 1. Colonial breadstuff's Adelaide wheat, ex store, 34s 6d per 4961b5; New Zealand wheat, ex store, 32s to 33s 6d per 4961b5, according to grade ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 24s per 280 lbs. Tallow Australian, fair average quality beef, 24s 6d per cwt; mutton, 255. Pig iron remains at 44s per ton. Kauri gum and leather are unaltered in value. Wool—At to-day’s auction, a catalogue of some 6900 bales was submitted, which elicited good competition, prices realised being ab®ut the same as on the previous days. The total number of bales catalogued to date is 79,400, of which 7000 have been withdrawn. Dec. 2. Breadstuffs and tallow are unaltered in value, The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,460,000 quarters, and for the Continent of Europe 2,070,000 quarters. Wool—At the colonial wool sales to-day the catalogue comprised 10,600 bales which were submitted to auction. Spirited competition was shown for the various lots, the tone of the sales being decidedly firmer. Superfine or finest qualities, greasy wools, ruled about Id in advance of the prices obtained at last wool ■ sales. Medium and inferior greasy are fully Id dearer. Scoured wool generally realised an advance of id to Id per lb. Dec, 3. At to-day’s wool sales 9900 bales were submitted at auction. The market was steady. The present series of colonial wool auctions closes on the 10th inst. The wheat market is quiet, but prices are stable. A November shipment has been sold at 34s 3d, but more is asked for January cargoes.
