THE BOROUGH QUESTION.

TO THB EDITOR. Sib,— Since writing on this question no one seems to take it up. Is it because the orginal proposer of the Arowhenua Town Board is not agreeable to amalgamate with Temuka? If so, it requires little to quash an important question. There never was a subject before the public but what got opposition, and, so far as I can understand, a good many of those who opposed the Borough being formed some years back would be only too glad to see it come to pass now. If the two Town Districts formed into a Borough it would bo a great boon; it would increase the value of property, and it would be quite an advertisement to have it called the I

Borough of Temuka; we ihould not then have two paltry Town j Boards* wrangling at each other * because one gets a load of soil or shingle belonging to the other. It could be easily worked by forming it into wards, each ward to hare its own representative. So far it would be much the same as at present. If anything is to be done, it should bo done at once, as the term of office of the present members expires in September next; so that by the time the petition has been taken round _ for signatures and forwarded to Welling* ton, meetings held, and all necessaries done, that date would have arrived. Now, as I do not intend to go any further with this subject, I would suggest that a deputation consisting of members from each Topi Board should meet and properly discuss the matter; and if they should agree that it would be of any benefit to the towns and district, then call a public meeting and explain the benefits to be derived, and also take the opinion of the meeting. Now, as I said,, I do not intend going further with this subject, but 1 hope to hear of our leading citizens taking it in hand without delay. Trusting that I have not trespassed on your kindness and valuable space too far, I am, etc., Rxtbpateb.
