INTERPKOVINOIAL NEWS. The Hospital trustees at Duoedin have decided to erect a new operiting theatre in connection with tho hospital nt a cost of £1516. The matter of appointing b new house surgeon, for which poet applications had beejn iavited, was postponed. Two Auckland boys named Allcock and Ede, who wore sentenced recently by Mr Baddeley, R.M., to 7 days' imprisonment and a flogging, were released from Mount Eden gaol on Thursday by order of the Ministot of Justice, after beior incarcerated three days and undergoing the flogging ordered. The beys had been found guilty of robbing fruit from an orchard, but the sentence imposed elicited much public discussion, and representations made to the Minister of Justice resulted in their release. The New Zealand University November examinations for degrees, senior and Tinline scholarships and honors, which began on Monday, the Hth, eoocluded on Wednesday. Fourteen candidates applied to be examined in Wellington—seven for the B.A. degree, two for the M.A., four for the L.L.8., and one for tho L.L.D. The experiment of lighting the streets of Wellington by electricity, carried out by Mr Walter Prince, of l)unedin, was tried on Thursday night, and proved very successful. Ag'ovefight between Murphy and Jike for £2O a side, at Wellington, resulted iu a win for the former. Jack Hall, lightweight champion of Australia, has challenged Murphy, and the latter haß aocepted. The Uhristchurch Industrial Association on Wednesday night appointed a subcommittee to take ioto consideration the subject of the Government workshops and their relation to colonial industries. Several members of the Association expressed themselves strongly in favor of the work done in Government workshops being left to private enterprise. A young boy nam ad Henderson was killed near Wallsend Btation on Wednesday. A number of boys were playing, pushing trucks backwards and forwards, ami Henderson slipped and fell beneath a j truck that was in motion. His abdomen was 'crushed, and he died a few hours afterwards. Ad official test of the pumping machinery at the new Calliope Dock, Auckland, was made on Wednesday by Mr Errington, ; prior to its being passed, before a large J number of leading citizens. The machinery j worked with complete satisfaction, and the I dock, which at the start contained 40,000 tuns of water, was pumped dry in i\ hours. I The proprietors of the Wellington Evening Post have received a letter on behalf of J. Martin, threatening an action for libel with £2OOO damages, in respect of certain comments in regard to the late suicide of Mrs Martin at the City Hotel, unless an apology is published and costs paid. The Estate Gazette says that the number of farms which will be vacated in Great Britain at Michaelmas next is entirely without precedent.
