THE GERALDINE PARKS.
A public meeting was held in the Town Board office, G-eraldine, on Monday last, for the purpose of taking into consideration the question of ways and means for restoring and beautifying the large and small Parks, as several repairs, etc., were urgently needed, whi«h the Domain Board were not in a position to carry out. The evening being so very wet there was but a small attendance. Mr J. Mundell, Chairman of the Town Board, occupied the chair, and read the advertisement calling the meeting. He also explained what had been dome to the Parks, about £SO having been Bpent on the Parks. In reply to Mr Hawkins, the Chairman said the rents from the lower Parks amounted to £ls 10s per year. It was intended to try and make the lower Parks pay themselves. The rent from the Bush Parks was to be utilised for paying off the debt that nad been incurred in fencing the Bush Parka. That debt "amounted now to about £l5O. A considerable amount of conversation took place on the state of the Board's finances. Oh the proposition of Mr Cunningham, seconded by Mr Hiskene, it was decided to recommend the Domain Board to allow those persons whose ,», property adjoined the Parks to have private right-of-ways into the grounds at a certain charge per year. It was also decided on the proposition of Mr Cunningham, seconded by Mr Pearpoint, to recommend the Domain Board to ask recognised members of any Club to subscribe Is per annum per head for the privilege of having the Parks kept in order. It was also decided to recommend the Domain Board to canvass the town for subscriptions. A feeling seemed pretty general among those prosent that the rent of the parks • n the flat should not be taken for the purpose of paying off the debt incurred on the Du»h park by fencing, etc. The Chairman stated that it was the intention of the Domaiu Board to devote th« rent derivable from the bush park to the purpone of paying off the debt upon them, and making the flat park self-supporting by means of the rent derived from them, Augmented by subscriptions, etc.
On the proposition of Mr PearSoint, seconded by Mr Turner, it was ecided to recommend the Domain Board to keep a separate ledger account for the bush and flat parks respectively, and to expend the revenue received on the two accounts. The public meeting then terminated, and a meeting of the Domain Board was held. Two tenders were received for cutting and removing the grass in the parks, that of Mr W. G. Sherratt at £1 10s being accepted. The meeting then terminated.
