AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.
TIMARD.
Messrs Grade, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday os follows: —
Horses—-At the Timaru borsebszaar on the 27th ult. we held our annual sale of exhibited and other hcrses. The entry was large, but business during the day was quiet, and sales difficult to effect. Best draughts sold up to £25, and hackneys from £ls to £22 10s. On Saturday last we bad a full yard, composed chirfly of shearers’ hacks, and a few draughts. The demand for the form r was brisk, and 22 changed hands a' small prices. To-day we entered 41 head ot all classes, and only succeeded in disposing of 13 head. We quoitbest draughts £l7 to £25 ; medium, £lO to £ls 10s ; hacks, medium to good, £l2 to £22 10s; light and weedy, £2 to £6 10a. Cattle -At Washdyke yards on Thursday there was very little demand lor beef, and only a few head were sold.' Stores were in good request, and all on our lists changed hands, We sold at auction 117 h«ad, as follows 3 fat steers at £7, 3 heifers at £5 ss, 2 cows at £5, 8 steers at £4 ss, 6 steers at £4 12s 6d, 26 head mixed steers at £2 15s, 33 yearlings 24s to 27e, 12 calves 225, 18 heifers at from 42s 6d to 655, 6 cows at 22s 6d to 355, and privately 48 head, ftheep—There was a fair demand for all lots entered, but no alteration in prices. We sold 52 fat ewes at 11s Id, 39 at 12s, 29s at 9s 4d, 86 hoggets at 10s 6d, 26 wethers at lls 6d, 64 wethers at 14s, 12 fat lambs at 7s 6d, 304 hoggets at 7s 4d, 25 ewes and lambs at ]0» 2d, and privately 430 crossbred ewes and lambs.
Skins—-At our regular sale on Wedneed ay we catalogued and sold 3200 skins. Competition throughout was fairly good, and prices a shade over the former sale. Best butchers’ crossbreds sold up to 5s 7d, merinos up to 4s 41, iambs’ 6d to lOd, crossbreds in bales 6d per lb, merinos in ba'es4d to 5d per lb. Hides—We sold 52 at 3d, 3£d, 3|d, according to weight and quality. Tallow Various country consignments, making a total of over 2£ tons, we have sold at from 6s 6 1 to 9s 4d per CWt. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Htdney, Nov. 5. New Zealand wheat has fallen in value, and is quoted to-day at 3s to 3s 4d per bushel, New Zealand oats show a slight improvement, prices ranging from Is lid to 2s 2d per bushel. Maize continues about the same as last week, viz., 3s 9d to 3s 19d per 56lbs. Potatoes are still a drug in the market, and have fallen a further 5s per ton, 25s per ton being all that can be obtained at present. Adelaide, Nov. 6. Shipping wheat is 3s 2 t to 3s 4d per bushel, Flour is quoted at £8 10s to *9 per ton.
