A QUEENSLAND TRAGEDY.
Brisbane, Oct. 17.
A shocking tragedy was enacted here last Wednesday. A man who was coming into town along the Toowonga road found three hats on the river bank, and shortly afterwards he saw the body of a little girl floating down the river. Subsequently the body of a little boy was found near the same place. It appears that a Mrs Davis, with three children, who was said to have been deserted by her husband and left in great poverty, had been existing for some time past on the charity of friends and neighbors, and had lately been living with some people at Paddington, who Mrs Davis thought had become tired of the children. She took the girl, who was aged six years, and the boy, who was only a few months old, leaving a boy of five years with these people, who are named Tadman, and left the house. Shortly afterwards the following letter was found, signed by Mrs Davis:— "My dear Mrs Tadman —Tou have been a friend to me, and may God reward you. When you Bee this I shall be at the bottom of the river. I leave George with you, if you will let him stay; if not, give him to some one else. I had rather you let him stay with yon. Good bye, and God be with you." Mrs Davis' body has flince been found.
