LAKE TEKAPO RACES. The annual meeting of thn Tekapo Racing Club took place on Friday last. The weather was splendid, ihe attendance was good, and the races were well contested. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance of the public enormous. His Excellency, Sir Henry .’Lodi, and Lady' Loch and suite, • were present during the day. Donovan’s Dunlop, Bst 71b ... 3 After several breaks away, the field was despatched to a fairly good start. Dividend, Menotli, Oakleigh, Recall, Volcano, The Levite, and Siivermine, were the. first away, Remus getting off badly. Passing the stand, Menotli, Volcano, Siivermine, The Levite, Lara, and Oakleigh, occupied prominent places, Remus recovering some of his lost ; ground. Menotti .continued to lead to the far side, where he was supplanted by Siivermine. Then followed Volcano, Gasburner, Oak'eigh, and Lara. On entering'the straight Volcano and The Levite fell.,to the rear, and Oakleigh ,assumed command, with Remus close up. A splendid finish ensued all, the way home, Oakleigh ultimately beating Remus by a length and a-half. ' Then followed Dunlop, Lord Aden, Lira,' and The Leyile in a bunch; Pa"ha and Spade Guinea were never dangerous. Volcano c*mo in last but one. The ring have been hard hit over Oak-, leigh’s win, except two or three who saved. The win is popular amongst the public, and the owner of Oakleigh wins £IO,OOO, The result of this race shows that the Ballarat division have made a very closer coup, similar to Sheet Anchoi’s win in the Melbourne Cup.
