CHRISTOHIRCH CORN EXCHANGE.
The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the Hth inet. ; We have but little to report in the grain markets* Purchases are only made from hand to month and for absolute orders to hand. The English wheat market shows ao signs of reviving to any extent, and in Australia there appears to be plenty of stocks for their requirements. Potatoes, however have found ready sale for shipment per Haurote which left for Sydney yesterday. Buyers, however, are not anxiona to purchase for the next steamer and it is doubtful whether the present prices will be maintained. Wheat—Small orders continue to be executed from ex store lots, buyers having the best of the markets. Pearl and tuscao are being held at 3s 5d to 8e 6d, and hunters at 3s 4d ; chicken wheat has a fair demand at 3s for whole and 3e 8d to 2a 101 for broken.

Btrley None offering, except Bmall seed lines which are selling at 4s to ss. Peas —Several lines of Blue Prussians have been sold at 3s to 3s Id for shipment to London, but feed sorts have noenquiry. Beans are low in stock, and are worth in small lots 3» to 3* Id. Grass Seed— Sales continue on a small scale for machine dressed at 3s to Ss 3d, Farmers’ parcels have no enquiry. Cocksfoot—The season is nearly past. Southern orders are becoming smaller, and prices are slightly easier, although stocks held are no ir in a very limited compass. Potatoes—Several lines have been placed at 13a, to 15s at country stations for shipment yesterday to Sydney, buyers ate now more chary about speculating. Dairy Produce—lN o business is being done. Batter can be purchased at 2d per lb and no buyers. Cheese is also without buyers. The above quotations are for delivery f.0.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday, there were fairly good entries of fat and store cattle, and moderate entries of sheep. Fat Cattle—The demand on the whole was fairly good, and late rates were about ( maintained, steers selling at from ( £5 17s 6d to £7 6s and up to £lO 12s 61; - heifers and fat cows, £4 to £6 16«, being for primest beef 22a per 100 b; inferior, 17a to 18s. Store Cattle—The demand wss pretty 1 good, and privately and otherwise most j lines were cleared at about late values, | viz,, three-year-olds, £4 5» to £4 16s per 1 bead ; other descriptions moved off very , slowly, values in all esses remaining low And unaltered. f Dairy Stock—The demand was dull and i very little bueioesa.was done. I Fat Sheep—A very small entry, de- 1 tnand good at the commencement of sale, 1 and values advanced from Is to Is 6d ( over late rates. Towards the doss of the sale values receded to last weak’s rates. r The primest crossbred wethers sold at ( from 15s 6d to 19s 3d ; lighter weights, j 11a to 12s 9d ; shorn crossbreds, 10s to 12s 9d ; owes, 10s to 10s 9d ; merino wethers (in the wool), 1S» to 15s Id; shorn, do to 8a 9d ; being from 2d to 3d ' per lb for mutton in the wool, and up to 2d for shorn. ] Store Sheep—The following sales were j made ; —ll2 crossbred mixed sexes at 9s ; ( 390 do at 8s 4d and 8s 7d, 92 crossbred ] ewes with lambs at 7* 6d, 302 crossbred , four-tooth wethers at Ss 6d, 209 inferior ■ hoggets at 2s Id. 242 crossbreda hoggets ? at 5a Id ; 42 ewes and lambs at 9s 9d per eoaple ; 86 mixed crossbreds at 7a 9d. * Fat Lambs—Primest sorts sold at from 8* to as high as lls 3d, second-rate sorts 7s 6d to 8j 6d, inferior sorts down to ss. 6 Pigs—Bacon pigs sold sold at from 25s 1 tc 45s each, porkers 18s to 265, stores to I 8s to 16a per head. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. * At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was trans- ' acted :— ■ Fat Cattle—229 head were yarded, the . number being in excess of requirements, and prices fell slightly. The quality of the cattle yarded ranged from medium to prime, about half baing prime, the balance I medium to ordinary. Best bullocks brought from £7 10s to £9 5a ; others, £4 10s to £7 5« ; cows, £3 12s 6d to £7 12a 6d. Pat Sheep—2736 were penned, of whud 855 were merinos, average to prime quality, the balance crosabreds, chiefly wethers, the greater portion prime. No improvement took place in prices. Best crossbred wethers brought from 13s 6d to 15s 9d ; one pen extra heavy, 16s 9d ; others, 10a 9d to 13s; best do ewes, lls 6d to 14s; others, 9s to lie ; merinos, 6s to lls 9d. Fat Lambs —2OO penned, nearly all prime. Competition wss brisk, and rather better prices realised, the range being from 7s 6d to 10s 6d. Pigs —164 offered, representing all descriptions. Bidding was loss brisk to-day, and lower prices were ruling thoughont the sales. Bacon pigs brought 35a to 65s ; porkers, 27a to 325; stores, 16s to 965; suckers, 8s to 13s. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Oct. 18. Messrs Qoldsborough and Company (limited) held the second wool sslee of the season yesterday, at which there was a good attendance of Home and foreign buyers, The competition was excellent. Two thousand five hundred bales were offered, chiefly composed of greasy in good condition from Kiverina, Inferior to good greasy ruled from 6£d to 9|d, and inferior to ordinary scoured from lOd to 14d. Two thousand four hundred bales were sold. ENGLISH MARKET?. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, haye received the following cable message from London, dated October 11th, 1887: Wheat Msrket quiet, New Zealand wheal, long-berried, is worth 32s per 4961 b. Tallow— Market steady. It has been lower since we last telegrapbsd, but has recovered. Good mutton and beef tallows are worth respectively 23s and 22s per cwt. Leather—Market firm, with an upward tendency. Frozen M*at—Market quiet. Canteri bury mutton is worth 4d per lb. I o The fallowing private telegram was ’ received in Christchurch from London * yesterday : ’ The wheat market is stationary. - Californian cargoes, for shipment in > November anJ December, are eelling t 34a 6d for 500. h, first quality. > Adelaide distant cargoes are selling at 83e, to arrive next April.
