S.C. BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Thursday. Present—Mr S. W. Goldsmith (Chairman), the Rev. Qao. Barlay, the Rev. J. Smytho, Messrs John Talbot, Melville Gray, W. B. Howell, and R. A. Barker. The result of the election of a member of the Board resulted in the return of Mr R, H. Pearpoint, who received the support of 28 School Committees against 8 who supported Mr Job Brown. In his report the Inspector stated that in accordance with instructions ho had visited for the second time the Rhubarb Fiat District. Since his first visit it had been found impossible to procure the ground from the Hon. L. Walker, which was suggested as a suitable site for a school. About half a mile from this spot there is some land belonging to the late Mr H. Campbell and Ibis the Inspector recommended as a site.
After some consideration it wae resolved— “ That before the Board comes to any decision in regard to the erection of school premises in the Pleasant Yiew or Fairfield district, the people interested bo asked whether they are prepared to convey to the Board, at their own cost, a suitable site of not less than four acres (4 acres.)’’ In reply to the Oliairman, Inspector Gow explained the new form* of papers he b id to fill in as examination reports of the scbon *be examined. Mr Talbot suggested that some remarks should be made at the end of each report, and other members agreed with the suggestion. Mr Barclay announced the result of bis visit to Silvsrstream, re post-office, stating that he had made satisfactory arrangements.
The amended boundaries of the Scotsburn district ware disous.-ed and agreed to. Correspondence was then dealt with. It was agreed to confirm the appoints ment of Miss Beattie as pupil teacher at the Hilton School. It wns decided to sanction the retention of W. J. Lewis at,Geraldine Flat School on half p a Jj »■ *Ho average was rather low, The Yoodbury Committee was granted half coal of copper boiler. They applied for £5. The Orarl School Committee wore allowed a grant for a rod and curtain to divide the schoolroom. Six pounds were granted to the Pleaaapi fal'ty School Committee for the removal of olosets. The St. Andrew Committee reconur mended that Mr Cooke be appo med minter, and Mrs Cooke mistress.—lt was decided if the teachers named are willing tho appointment bo confi/med. Some correspondence w.;s road from Mr J. C.
