THE LANGWORTHY AFFAIR.

Writing on the sth August the London correspondent of the Argus says : —“The Langworthy marriage case shows a coming triumph for the unfortunate lady. Mr Langworthy’s solicitors, Messrs Bircham —have at length thrown him over, and his mother has instructed another firm to guard his interests. Meanwhile the end is almost in sight. There has been paid into Court on behalf of Mrs Langworthy £4500 alimony, £7OO costs, whilst security has been offered for the annuity of £SOO a year fixed by the Court in respect of the bankrupt’s child. On these arrangements being completed, the Divorce Court has made a decree nisi dissolving the marriage absolute. Mrs Lang worthy is now pressing her claim for breach of promise of marriage, and an offer of £IO,OOO has been made to her to settle. This has been refused, and the Court is being asked to award her a sum equal to the capital of £I2OO a year, which was the amount of alimony to which the Court of Divorce thought her to be entitled, there is no reason to suppose that Mrs Langworfchy willnot succeed here, and that the long list of her victories is to be crowned by a partial defeat. The bill in Parliament for legalising the Antwerp marriage performed by Dr Potts is temporarily in suspense.”
