CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS.

At the Addington yards on Wednesday, fairly large entries of fat and store sheep, moderate entries of cattle, and the attendance of buyers about an average one. Fat Cattle—The demand was fairly active. A slight advance is to be recorded over late quoied values, best quality selling at from 20s to 22a per 1001 b; medium quality, 17s to 19s. Bullocks sold at from £5 10s to £lO per head ; heifers, from £4 15s to £7 7s fid per head.—The N.Z.L. and' M.A. Company sold for Mr F. Tavender 2 fat cows at £7 2s fid ; one heifer at £6 17s fid, 1 at £6 7a fid, and 3 at £5 17s fid.

Dairy Cattle—A middling entry, quality on the whole not very good, late values about ruling with very moderate business. Cows near calving sold at from £4 10s to £6 10s per head. Fat She p—A numerous entry. The first lot of shorn sheep made their appearance, and met with a little competition. Lale values showed no alteration, Primest crossbred wethers sold at from 13s fid to 15s 61 per bead ; light weights, 10s 6i to 12s fid ; ewes, 9s to 13s; shorn wethers, up ta 10a fid ; merino wethers, 8s fid to 33s ; being at from 2d to 2Jd per lb in the wool, 2d per lb shorn. Fat Lambs—Values ranged at from 7s to 13s per head. Store Sheep —A large entry yarded, principally young sheep. The demand was poor, and a good number were passed unsold. A line of crossbreds, mixed sexes, sold at 10s lid ; hoggets, 6s to 7s; ewes with iambs, 10s 61 and 10s lid. Pigs—A fair entry, principally porkers and stores. The demand was good, and all lots cleared «t quite late rates. Porkers sold at from 18s to 33s per head, stores at 10a to 17s 6d.

DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—There is no change to report for the better ia the position of the market, which coatinuos very quiet, and with the exception of special sorts for mixing, purchases of which are only made in a hand-Uwmouth fashion, there is r ally no demand. No doubt sabs could be made of really good milling, but at prices •which holders would bo very loth to accept. Quotations; Prime mi ling velvet, 3s 9J to 3*lod ; best red straw and tuscan, being lower i > «tock, commands in small parcels to 4s 2d ; medium to good, 3561 to 3s 9d ; inferior, 3s to 3s 6d (ex store, bags weighed in). Oats—These have continued in good demand during the past Stock’ are rapidly decreasing, but pr.oes have no> advanced ; medium are in slightly better demand. Quotations Prime milling)

]s 8d to Is 8$ I; best bright short feed 1m 7|-t to Is 81; medium, Is 6d to Ip 7d (ex surre, bags weighed in). B irley—Choics samples for malting could be placed. There is also a moderate demand for feed and milling, but in the ab enco of supplies quotations arc nominal. Chaff—lnferior to medium quality, £2 to £2 sa; best quality, £2 15s to £2 17s fid. Potatoes-Best Northern Derwents, S2s fid to 35s ; Southern, 25s to 3'>s. Grass Seeds—Ryegrass, 3r 9d to 4s for machine dressed, 2s fid to 3a for farmers’ dressed ; cocksfoot, 4£d to4|l per lb. Butter—Salt, very dull at 3d to 5d ; fresb, in mixed cases, 5d to fid. Eggs—7|d per dozen. Sheepskins —At the weekly sale on Tuesday country dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought 10d to 3s 3d; good to best, 3s fid to ss; dry merino, low to medium, 9d to 2s 3d ; good to best, 2s fid to 4s; dry pe ts, 44 to 8d ; butcheis’ green crossbreds, 3 4 5J to 5a 2d; do do merino, 3t 4d to 3a lOd. Tallow —There is net much prospect of an advance in values, but at the same time there is no difficulty experienced in disposing of all coming to hand at the following quotations, viz.: For inferior and m’xed, 10s to 12s ; medium to good, 13s to 15s ; beat mutton, 16s to 17s; rough fat, inferior 5s to 7s, medium to good 8s to 9s ; caul fat, 10s t > 11s per cwt.

DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. At the Burnisde Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—2l9 head came forward to the worst sale of the season. A few of the best pens at the beginning of the sale sold fairly, but generally speaking it was almost impossible to force business even at a heavy reduction as compared with recent quotations. Beat bullocks brought from £7 to £8 10s (one special pen £9 ss) ; medium, £5 10a to £6 10s; best cows, from £5 to £6 ; medium, £3 10s to £4 10s.

Eat Sheep—2l7o crossbreds and 579 merinos—total, 3349—were yarded. For all qualities except freezers the demand was very slack, and sales could only be effected at a reduction of from la to Is fid a head on last week’s values. Best crossbred wethers brought from 14s to 15s 9d ; medium, 12s to 13s ; light, 9a to 31s; best crossbred ewes, 10a 3d to lla 9d ; medium, 9s to 10s; light, 8a to 8s fid ; best merino wethers, 8s to9s 3d ; medium, 6s 6d to 7s 6d.

Fat Lambs—2o7 penned ; a number much in excess of the trade’s requirements so early in the season. Prices all round suffered a decline, but inferior lambs (too young) it was well nigh impossible to quit. Prices ranged from 4s 9d to 12s 9d, Pigs—2l6 penned. The demand for bacon pigs were leas active and prices were easier; competition, however, for well-bred stores was brisk, and last week’s quotations were maintained. Bacon pigs sold at from 34s to 49^; porkers at from 23s 6d to 30s ; and stores at from 13s to 235. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Sept. 28. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Limited, of New Zealand reports on the local grain market as follows : Shipping wheat, 3s 7d to 3s 8d ; sales only effected with difficulty ; malting barley no material change, if anything weaker, 5s to 6s. New Zealand oats— Feeding soris, 2s 9d to 2s l(H ; milling, 2s lOd to 2s lid ; under bond, weak, 2a to 2s Id,

ENGLISH MARKETS. Londok, Sept. 27. Wool—-At the auctions to-day the catalogues comprised 10,300 bales, for which there was a better demand. Good greasy wool is in good demand. * Sept. 29. Adelaide wheat, ex store, has advanced Is, from 32s 6d to 83s 6d, and Now Zealand wheat, best quality, from 32s to 335, Adelaide flour is unchanged at 28s. Australian tallow, average quality, remains at 22a 6d for beef, and 23s 6d for mutton.
