Mundell and Co. hold a sale of horses of all descriptions at Geraidjne to-morrow. , TbA Mkbting,—rA tea meeting under the auspices of the Waitohi Blue Ribbon Society will take place on Friday next, “ Undebthb Palms.”—This beautiful cantata will be repeated in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine, to-mprrow evening, and anyone wishing to enjoy a musical treat should make a ■ point of attending, Temuka Monthly Salk.—Mr K. F. Gray •sells sheep, cattle, horses, and pigs at the ipnnthly sale at Temuka to*morrow. He also sells tinware, biscuits, firewood, posts, etc. The Elections.—The result of the elections in the Gladstone and Rangiluta districts will be declared at the Cour'lioiueß at Temuka and Geral line ut noon to-morrow. Tovn Boabd Election.—The poll for the election of a member of the Geraldine Town Board, in the Jroom of Mr R. H. Pearpoint, resigned, will take place tomorrow, The candidates are Messrs Amos Sherralt and James Williams, Mr Taylor having retired. The Heib of Tiohboenb.—Sir Henry Tichborne, who has lately come of age and entered into possession of the estates which were claimed by the Claimant, has been married at Coventry to Miss Mary Petre, a member of the well-known old family. ILMA be Mueska.—The London correspondent of the Otago Daily Times writes; — Madame lima do Murske, the celebrated canlatriee, is reported to be contemplating another tour in Australia. It will bo remembered that the last lime this gifted vocalist was on your side of the globe she buried one husband and married another within the spell of one brief stay in Dunedin. There is a rumor that Madame Sarah Bernhardt—the divine Sarah—contemplates a visit to Australia.
Chatham Island.—A correspondent of the Christchurch Press at the Chatham !?• land writes This island is peculiarly situated, as it is one of the habited points of the globe where the day of the week changes. It is just m the line of demarcation between dates. Here high 12 on Sunday or noon ceases, and instantly Monday meridian begins, Sunday cpmes into our house on the east side and becomes Monday by tbetinie it passes out the western door. We sit down to our noonday dinner on the Sunday, and it is Monday before wo finish it.” A Poor Opinion or the Country. It is almost impossible for country people to realise the dense ignorance as to matters agricultural and rural from which the children of the London poor suffer. Waixohi Flat Bute Ribbon Society. A meeting of the Waitohi Blue Ribbon and Gospel Temperance Society was held in the school-oom on Tuesday last. Present—Miss-* J, Wa'son (Chairman), V. Talbot, E. C’Ntill, A, J. Andrews, and K. Body. The Weather. The unusually fine weather of the past foitnight was varied on i Saturday by a heavy full of rain. The rain commenced at about midnight on Friday, and continued wjrli liltl- intermission u til Into on Saturday night. The rivers and creeks rose rupidlv. The Terpuka footbridge was unapproachable on Saturday afternoon from the towrship side, and the Waitohi creeks were bank to bank, The Orari did not rise to any great extent, and was never uncross, able. The Opihi rose very quickly, and it was evident that the rain was bringing the snow off the back ranges. On the whole, the change is a welcome o 'e. Although hitherto the days have been remaikably fine the nights have been cold and frosty,‘and as a consiquence there has been little growth.
