A yoioe from: mount magdala AN APPEAL, N appealing for subscrpUons for the FiusT Magdalen asylum in New Zealand, the bisters of the "Good Shepherd ” defir *to express, through mo, their sincere gratitddo to the inhabitants of this City and the Colony generally for the kind co-operation rfforded them since they commenced the great work to which their lives are devoted in their* temporary residence, Manchester Street Ncrth, Hourly we meet with a poor Magdalen, tired of a misspent life, seeking a shelter, and finding no security against the biting tblasts of renewed temptation, turns away with the weight cf the world’s accusation, with the world’s condemnation, and becomes the victim of an unholy impulse, which cannot be recalled without a sigh - nay, without a tear, Kindly, therefore, bear in mind—1, A most desirable site has been required for the Magdalen near Christchiucfl. 2, His Eminence Cardinal Moran laid lh° foundation-stone at ‘' Mount Msgdula on the 18oh February of Jaot year, in th presence of 5000 people, and the firs portion of the Asylum is neatly com pleted. 3, (The advantages of the Magdalen will be extended to all New Zealand and elsewhere. 4, The waifs and the wanderers who are ,i rescued from the paths of misery and sin . are not asked to wh.it creed they beloug. It is sufficient that they need succour, 5, The inmate* of “Mount Magdala” and the Good Shepherd v Nun* placed over them will remember always, with lively gratitude, the benefactors of the institution.
6. Subscriptions may be paid either in part or in full, according to the convenience of subscribers. 7. If, therefore, it were ever true to say "thathe gives twice who gim quickly," it is particularly 'io' on t he present occasion, in order that toon we may see and her House of the Good Shepherd added to the 150 Homes scattered oVor the globe in which more than 4000 Rb &ISIEUBBB bestow their devoted care on 20,000 ChiX/DRBN and young girls, while a judicious channel will be opened for the outlay of the Funds entrusted to the Institution, The Sisters of the Good Shepherd will ' bo grateful to all those who encourage their friends to subscribe to the funds of the Magdalen Asylum. (The favor of an early response will enable me to bring to a speedy conclusion an institution from which circles of good must emanate *.o exercise a mslutory influence on the future of the Colony.
