SOUTH ORARI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the South Orari School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, 19th inst. Present—Messrs E. A, Barker (Chairman), McLeod, Bisset, and Binskin. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman explained the steps he had taken re summoning the parents referred to at last meeting, and his action was approved of. Correspondence was read from the Board of Education as follows(1) Notifying that the Board had sanctioned retaining the ex-pupil teacher’s services until the next standard examination ; (2) regretting that owing to its present financial position the Board is unable to grant a subsidy towards the proposed School Library ; (3) Me election of -a member of the Board vice Dr Poster, and stating that Messrs J. Brown and E, H. Pearpoint had been nominated as candidates to fill the vacancy. A letter was read from the Secretary to the Temuba High School soliciting co-operation to secure Mr jßrown’s election. Satisfaction was expressed at the retention of Master McLeod’s services, as the attendance was steadily increasing. Re Library, the Secretary was authorised to communicate with the Greneial Government. Eesolved—“ That this Committee record their votes in favor of Mr J. Brown.’” The Master’s report was then read. The attendance was shown to be increasing of late. The strict average attendance for the last four weeks was —Boys, 20.6; girls; 16 9; total, 37.5. No. present on Monday —Boys, 24 ; girls, 23 ; total, 47. Eesolved— ■“ That the 26th inst. (polling day), and the 29th and 30th inst. (race days) be holidays.” The visitor (Mr Coles) in hia report stated that ho found the attendance to be on the increase, and everything going on satisfactorily at the school. Mr Bisset was appointed visitor for next month.
The Inspector’s report was read and considered very satisfactory. Eesolved —“ That application be made to the Board to carry out the Inspector's recommendation as to separating the Master’s division from the pupil teachers.”
Six shillings were received from the dancing class, and 5s from Mr Buxton towards the Library.
There being no other business the meeting adjourned.
