A very curious case has arisen in connection with the Nelson city flection. The Corrupt Pruotices Act disqualifies any person letting n committee room to a candidate. Prior to the nomination, Mr Gihbs, another candidate, hired the As-ooiation's hall as a committee room. Oram Vulaoe SettiißHßnt.—The Com- I inissioner of Crown Lands invites tenders for the perpetual lease of a number of Bections at Otari. Tenders close on the 4th October. "Ukdbr thb Palms."—This beautiful cantata is, by special request, to be repeated in the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, on Wednesday. Thoee who were not present at the previous performance will do well to avail themselves of this opportunity, as the rendition of '.his music is a treat that will not occur again in Geraldine. Tbhuka. Daibt Factoe*. A special meeting of the Directors of the Temuka Dairy Company was held yesterday. Present —Messrs J. Brown (Chairman), Quinn, Scott, Cain, and Barker. Unsatisfactory tenders only having been reoeived for the erection of the manager's cottage, it was resolved to call for freßh tenders, to be in by 6fch proximo. It was decided to open the Factory on October 3rd, the prioe for milk to bo 3id per gal. of lllbs for all milk averaging 10 per cent, of cream and over. It was resolved to obtain 5 loads of shingle. After discussing some minor details the meeting terminated.

South Rangutata Station School.— A very successful concert and dance was held in connection with this school on Thursday evening last. A good programme had been provided, and was ably carried out. Musical items were contributed by Mrs "Whitton, Misses May and Coles, and Messrs Braceficld, Whilton, Binskin, Newman, Chapman, Cooling, McGregor, Lewis, and Clayton, and recitations by Mr Griffiths. Miss May and Mies Chapman accompanied most ot the singers. Tho dance which followed the concert, was kept, up with great spirit till morning, Mr Binskin acting as M.C., and Mr G. Newman supplying tbe music. A epeciul word of praise is due to Misses McLennan and Winter for their endeavor to make the gathering a success, Wesleva* Cbt/roh, Tbhuka.—A t ea meetin » and sooiil gathering was held at the Wesleyan Church, Temuka, on Wednesday evening. In spite of several counter attractions there was a good attendance and a very enjoyable evening was spent. A very choice tea wt.s provided by Mesdaraes Holwell (2) who in all matters connected with the church t*ke exceptional interest. The good things were dispersed by Mesdames Holwell, (2) and Thomus assisted by Miss F. Brown. After tea the Rev. W. G. Thomas took the chair and delivered a very pleasing and kindly address which was well received. Mr Job Brown also spoke at some length and made a good impressioD, The Rev, J. Dickson, the newlyappointed minister A the Presbyterian Church spoko at some leDgth of the importance of little things whether of good or evil. H» took among other examples that of the tiny brook which in due course became a river of importance. He compared this to a man's spiritual life and spoke earnestly and well on the subject. The choir in the course of the evening contributed some nico music under the leadership of Mr Harrison. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr J. Brown moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies who had provided the tea. This was carried by acclamation. A similar compliment was paid to tho several speakers and to the choir. The gathering proved one of tho most enjoyable that has been held for some time. To the ladies of Timaru and surrounding district.— Another reduction to meet the times. A cup of tea or coffee with cike supplied at all hours at the Railway Refreshment Rooms for 6d. Luncheon as usual.
