MR FRANKS AT TEMUKA.
Mr Franks addressed a meeting of electors at the Volunteer Hall last evening. Mr K. F. Gray occupied the chair. At the commencement of the address about 60 persons were present, later on the attendance slightly increased. Mr Franks, in a somewhat lengthy introduction, spoke of the success he had met with in the course of his travels through the country and expressed bis satisfaction with his own chanceß of election. He congratulated himself on the manner in which ho had conducted the campaign hitherto. He had not abused his opponents, nor don? 'anything that had tended to promote strife or illfeeling. When the election was over he felt confident that no one could accuse him of having hurt their feelings in any way. He had not the advantages of his opponents in some respects, and if hewers returned it could not be said that tbe power of wealth or the combination of a section of the community bad contributed towards his election. Mr Franks then spoke on the education question, the progressive property tax, and his scheme for cutting up the large estates much in the same uiuiiicr as on the occasien of his first meeting. He eulogised New Zealand as a country for sattlement, but considered it the most villainously governed country among the British dominions. He disputed the accuracy of the TemCKA Leadbti's report of his statements with regard to the area and rents of runs, and corrected the figures. Ho then proceeded to make a direct and personal attack on the TEitCKA Leader and Mr J. M. Twomey, and amidst considerable uproar told an anecdote verging so closely upon the indecent bs to be unfit for publication. By this time a number of people had left the Hall, and the dissenting remarks and noise gradually increasing Mr Franks said that he would not detain bis au« dienco any longer, and moved a vote of thanks to the chairman. The meeting thea dispersed.
