MR RHODES' MEETING.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I was verr much astonished at Mr Giay's ruling on the rote of confidence in the G-overnment moved by Mr Leach at Mr Rhodes' meeting on Monday evening. For once our permanent Chairman, as we might almost call him, was decidedly out of it. I occupied a position in the hall from which I was able to make a fair estimate of the show of hands, and those in favor of the motion were certainly in the proportion of at least three to two against it. On occasions where so much interest is displayed it would be perh»paaß well for a meeting to ask either one or two persons to assist the Chairman in counting the hands. It would at least relieve him of what is sometimes a disagreeable responsibility.—l am, etc., An Electoe.
