CHRISTOHWROH CORN EXCHANGE. Ths Corn Exchange reports for tbe week ending Friday evening, the 16tb inst.

Farmers have had exceptionally fine weather for their spring sowing, and the work is now in a forward state. We anticipate that the holders will shortly be offering the balance of their grain that has been held over. Indeed, a few lines of wheat and oats have already found purchasers at fairly satisfactory figures. Freights are reasonhle, but London prices do not leave any margin for shippers. Wheat—A few small lines have been taken up for Interprovincial orders at 3s 4d for hunters, and 3s 5d to 3a 6d for pearl and tuscan; second quality has been sold at 3s 2d to 8s 3d, and broken chicken wheat is quiet at 2s 8d to 2s lOd; whole at 3s to 8s Id. Oats—This market has shown a little more life, but we are unable to report any rise as the quantity offering still exceeds the demand. Several lines have been taken for shipment to Australia, and we expect the present quotations to he maintained. Milling are worth Is lid to 2s; heavy short feed, Is lOd; sparrowhills, Is 9d to Is lOd; danisb and tartars, Is 7d to Is Bd.

Barley—No malting samples are offering. For seed purposes a few choice lots command 4s 6d to ss; feed is offering at 2s 3d to 2s 4d. Beans are in small compass, and to execute orders 8s 3d is given. Peas are dull and quotations are unaltered. . Grass Seed—The demand still continues limited. Buyers of decent parcels command their own terms, and it is now generally admitted that large stocks will have to be held over till the autumn. Machine-dressed is easy at 3s 3d. Farmers’ range from Is 9d to 2s 9d. Cocksfoot is moving off in small parcels at 4£d to 4id. Potatoes are unquotable. Dairy Produce-Very little is being transacted. Buyers cannot find a market and holders are prepared to accept any reasonable offer, both for winter potted butter and cheese. Fresh made butter has a fair demand at Bd. The above quotations are for delivery f.0.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra. ENGLISH MARKETS. Lennon, Sept. 18. Colonial breadstuff's and tallow are without quotable change. At to-day's wool sales 11,800 bales were offered. The market is steady hot inactive. Hop-picking will bo completed this week. Becent rains have discolored a majority of the crops, and the finest descriptions are scarce. Sugar is quoted at 12s 9d per cwt. Sept. 15. At the wool sales to-day 1310 bales were submitted. The market continues steady, but inactive. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received be following cable message from London, dated Sept. 18th, 1887 Wool—Since the clow of the last sales the following sorts have declined, viz : medium and inferior greasy, and medium and inferior clothing washed, id per lb ; medium to good, alio in-

ferior scoured merino, Id per lb; greasy merino lambs, £d to Id per lb. Other kinds are unchanged. Attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is fair, and competion fairly active. Up to date 57,000 bales have been sold.
