SAMOAN AFFAIRS.
Berlin, Sept. 10. The North German Gazette asserts that Malietoa insulted the Emperor William and illtreated German residents ; also, that a large majority of Samoans have long recognised Tamesese as King. London, Sept, 12. In the House of Commons to-day, the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, replying to a question, stated that the British Consul at Samoa has been instructed to remain neutral in connection with the hostilities between Germany and King Malietoa. Sir Janies Ferguson added that Germany declared that its action in those islands would not affect the treaty between England, Germany, and America.
