Arrival or the Aorangi. The Aorangi arrived at Wellington on Monday night rather unexpectedly, after the postal a'uthoritira had given her up. She was off thj heads at 6.30, but was unable to enter, owing to the thick haze. The voyage was very pleasant, and the pissengers have all arrived in good health. Flue weather was experienced most of the way; even in running down the casting no severe weather was mot with. Her time is 43 days 17 hours 4 minutes/ and steaming time, excluding stoppages, 42 days 11 hours 29 minutes. No births or deaths occurred on the voyage. She brings 3500 tons of cargo, of which 1000 is for Wellinort-An. and 250 bags of mails. The passengers number 158, and among them are Judge Gillies and Miss Gillies. Thirty five passengers were landed at Hobart. There are 47 for Wellington, 39 for Auckand, 13 for Lyt-elto’i, Bfor Dunedin, and. the rest for other ports.

IN appealing for subscriptions for the FlllST MAGDALEN ASYLUM in New Zealand, the Siaters of the "Good Shepherd ” desir? to express, through me, their sincere gratitude to the inhabitants of this Oily and the Colony generally for the kind co-operation afforded them since they commenced the great work to srhioh their Urea are derated in their temporary residence, Manchester Street North. Hourly we meet with a poor Magdalen, tired of a misspent life, seeking a (belter, and finding no security against the biting tblaiti of renewed temptation, turns away with the weight of the world's accusation, with the world’s condemnation, and becomes the victim of an unholy impulse, which cannot be recalled without a sigh nay, without a tear, Kindly, therefore, bear in mind—1. A most desirable site has been acquired for the Magdalen near Christchurch. 2. His Eminence Otrdiual Moran laid th foundation-stone at "Mount Magdela’ on the 18i,h February of last year, in the presence of 5000 people, and the first portion of the Asylum Is nearly completed. 3. The advantages ef the Magdalsn will be extended to all Now Zealand and elsewhere. i. The waifs and the wanderers who are rescued from the paths of misery and sin are not asked to what creed they belong. It is sufficient that they need anooour. 5 The inmates of "Mount Magdala”and the Good Shepherd Nuns placed over them will remember always, with lively gratitude, the benefactors of theinstitu* tion. 6. Subscriptions may be paid either in part or in full, according to the eon. venience of subscribers. 7. If, therefore, it were ever true to say “that he gives twice who gives quickly,” it is particularly so on the present ooossion, in order that soon we may see another House of the Good Shepherd added to . the 150 Homes scattered over the globe . in which more than 4000 RluouirsßS bestow their devoted care on 80,000 , Childrbk and young girls, - while a judicious channel will be opened for the outlay of the JTtJkDS entrusted to the Institution. 8, The Sisters of the Good Shepherd will be grateful to all those who encourage their friends to subscribe to the fundi of the Magdalen Asylum.
