THE WAITOA GOLD FIND.
A telegram to band on Tuesday from Auckland saysßespecting the recent find of gold at Mr J. B. Smith's property, at Waitoa, three tone of stuff, obtained from various holes mink on the ground, hnveb»eo tested at MrG. Frassr’a foundry. Auckland. Complete tests were made by assay and by n practical test of the pirns, with the result that the value of the stuff was estimated at £2 14s p»r ton. The average vu'ufi of bullion, ns determined at the Bank -if New Z a'and, is £3 12 < 6d per lon. It is stated that Mr Hmi'h has been offered £l4 000 for 1000 acres, the half of his estate, and 1000 p id-up shares in the company which is to be floated at Christchurch to work the find. The gold found is free, and the wash d rt consists of a mixture of sand anil a kind of piptc'ay, and is of considerable dep h, underlying a large area not only on Mr Smith’s but ou o:her properties in the Piako district.
