GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board took place at the Board's office on Tuesday last. Present Messrs W. Postlethwaite (Chairman), W. U. Slack, V. Doßeozy, F. R. Flattnan, and J. Kelland. t From Mr A, W. Wright asking permission to mads use of a bank for filling up purposes.— Decided to grant the same subject to the approval of the Overseer. From Mr F. W. Stubbs, enclosing cheque for £62 10s, amount of subsidy received from Government on account of rates ; also, cheque fcr £32 6s 4d as per enclosed account. From Mr J. H. Baker, Christchurch, advising the Board that seclions No 2192, 2461, 2452, and 2453, had been set apart for gravel reserves, and that he had advised the Governor to vest them in the Board.

From Mr F, W. Stubbs, Olerk to lo the Geraldine County Council, with regard to the apprcsch to the Rangitata traffic bridge, stating that the Geraldine County Council had nothing to do with the bridge. The work was under the control of the Ashburton County Council. From Mr J. P. Maxwell, Manager of Hallways, Christchurch, staling that the matter of carting to the Rangitata Traffic Bridge would be seen into. From the General Manager of Railways, Wellington, stating that the Government was prepared to make a small contribution towards the maintenance of the road cu*■ up by curling stone to the protective works at the Ringitata river.—The Overseer was instructed to prepare an estimate of the damage and send in a claim. From Mr J. H. Baker, tho Immigration Office, Christchurch, enclosing circular pointing out to the Board the advantage to be gained by employers of labor employing such labor as they require through the Board of Advice established in Christchurch in connection with the Labor Exchange.—Received. From Mr Shaw, enclosing his account for surveying.

INTERVIEW. Mr D. Guthrie waited upon the Board, and asked them to taka some measures to prevent the water running ccross his land owing to the road having b-ten made. The Overseer was instructed to report on the same.

Mr Irvine being in the town attended at the Board’s request to explain the nature of Ihe bridge referred to by Mr Wigley. Mr Wjgley had said a bridge at a particular place had been erected for £5. Mr Irvine, however, had no knowledge of such a thing as it must have cost at least £l4, which was very cheap. Mr Irvine was thanked for his information and withdrew. overseer's report. The Overseers report was read as folllows : I have the honor to report for month ending date as follow* Very good progress has been made with the contracts m band during the month. The undermentioned have been completed, and passed for payment, vis., Markham’s Road, James Beckley ; repairs to Bangitata road, T. Sugruo ; shingling Denoon’s road, G. Hammond ; repairs to pound, J. P. Kalangher; Reserve fences, W. Ply ; Waihi River—During the last fresh in this river I find that it has a tendency to encroach below the traffic bridge, as the ehingle in the terrace is very loose at this point. I think it would be advisable to place a few large lumps of rock in the river-bed to prevent further scour »t this particular place. Orari River— Since list meeting 1 have had a groyne constructed of spars and boulders in the riverbed where the stream was encroaching on the road line above the bridge. I think this will have the effect of diverting the stream from the terrace. I have also bad some extra spars placed over the terrace at. Turner’e Reserve, Belfield. 1 have sent out the rate notices, and also a number of notices to clear gorse.—l am, etc.,

W. Shibbs. Mt the Waihi River—lt was decided to do the work. The action of the Overseer at the Orari river was approved of. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £3OO 19a wer» passed for payment and the Board rose.
