TIMAEU. Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows : The dullest lime of the year has now passed, and he is. happy to report that there already seems to be some improvement in business. A feeling generally prevails that an end has come to real bad limes, and that from the present time forward things will improve. Farmers certainly should rejoice that beef and mutton maintain their present values and are likely to do so till after shearing, at any rale, and even then no serious fall can occur. Regarding wool, his advices from Antwerp are satisfactory. His agents there writing under dale of 15lh July say :—“ We may add that when comparing our sale with the valuations we received from London on sending postal types, we find that we exceeded the average values. London sales closed firm, although the edge seemed off for crossbred, on account of the collapse of the American enquiry.” Extensive freezing chambers for the storage of frozen meat .hav* been erected at Antwerp, and already 8000 carcases of mutton, chiefly from New Zealand, had, at the date of last letter, b«en stored, and he is advised “ the meat, which appear# in good condition hoc* of firm-rate quality, will by and by fin'd its way into consumption, considerable interest being evinced by Ibo public relative to this shipment, although sales at present are slow, us could not be expected otherwise on the introduction of a now article. Yet the interest which the public seems to bestow on ibis article warrants the expectation of an ultimate although probably gradual success.” So much for a nt w market now open for wool and moat. ‘ The importance to farmers of opening up new nutlets for their produce must be bis excuse for the long quotation from his friend's letter.
