The Pabobl Post.—'rhe Parcel Post system will be commenced on October Ist. Board Meetings.—The monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board takes place to-day, and lhe monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board to-morrow evening. Football.—-The football match, Otago v. Wellington, took place on the ground of the latter on Saturday and resulted in a draw. The playing was very even and neither side scored. Electoral Addbessbs. Mr J. M. Twomey addresses the electors at Kakahu Bush to-night, Mr S. Buxton addresses the electors at Orari to-night and at Milford to-morrow night. Salvation Abmy, Temuka. —. A coffee supper and public meeting will tike place in the barracks to-night, when Captiin Rawlins and a number of Timaru warriors will be present. " Ukdek the Palms." This delightful Cantata will be given in the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, to-morrow evening, by a oborus of fifty voices, and a strong orchestra. It, will commence at 8 o'clock, Chess.—The match between the Timaru and Ohristchurch Club? concluded on Saturday evening. Of the 12 games Christchurch I won six, and in the five unfinished games i Christchurch is considered to have the advantage. Timaru won one game. Spbcial Tkains on Polling Day.—The Coloniul Treasurer states th'it the question of Government running special trains on the day of the rations, for t.bo purpose of enabling persons who have both country and town votes to exercise their full franchise, is now being considered by Ministers. Mr Buckley has urged that the proposal be carried into effect if only for finanoi»l reasons. Pbesbytbbian CHUBCir, Temuka.— The induction of tfie Rev. J, Dickson takes place in the Presbyterian Church, to morrow afternoon at 2 o'olock. In the evening a soiree will take place in the Volunteer Hall, tea being on the tables at half-past six o'clock. The Revs. Elliott (of Wellington), Krwin (of Christchurch), and other ministers will ba present at the meeting, and a choice ,and varied programme will be gone through.
• Gbbalmnb County Acclimatisation Society.—A meeting of the Council of the aboTo Society was held at (he Crown Hotel, Temuka, on Friday afternoon. Presant—- ■ A. M. Clark, E«q. (m the chair), Messrs Gray, Aspinall, Nicholas; and D; H*yes. After formal business the question of tbe regulations for fishing was considered. After some little discussion it ni resolved to adhere to the regulitions of hsfc season. An amendment, moved by Mr K. F. Gray and seoondeH by Dr Hayes, that the baurs of fishing be from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m., Sundays excepted, wan ducuesed, but ultimately negut red. Under the resolution pussod there will be no restrictions hb to the hours for fishing. The

Terbibl/R AcSidbnt.—A woman named Mrs Freeman, about 70 years of age, living "t Wie noi'th end of Reed Street, Oamaru (says the Notth Otsgo Times), met with a terrible accident oh Bunday morning, abou* i 11 o'clook. By some unaccountable means •he set her clothes on fire. There waa no one in the bouse but herself. Her soreams brought the neighbors to her asßistanoe, who were in time to sare her from a horrible death.. She had in her efforts to free herself of the flames managed to throw off some of hor cloihing, but was terribly burned before the neighbors arrived. Dr de Lautour was, fortunately, closo at hand; and after dressing Ihe burns had Mrs Freeman removed to the hospital, where she lies in a pjeearious condition; in fact, no hope is entertained of her recovery. K&kahu Bush School—A most successful concert, followed by a danc, was held in this school on Friday evening list, in aid of the prize fund. The Committee spared themselves no piins to make the gathering a success, and were amply rewarded for their labors. The night being clear and fine a Urge number of people attended, the schoolroom being crowded. A varied and interesting programme of songs, readings, etc., was gone through very successfully. The singers were accompanied on the piano by Mr Sidney Wolf, R.A.M., who also gave several exhibitions of his wonderful mastery of the instrument to tho delight of the audience. The Misses Meredith and Miss Foster added not a little to the enjoyment of the evening by their sineine. Hongs were given by Misses Meredith (2) and Foster, and by Messrs Bulnois, Ool<man, Cochrane, Brookes, and the school children, a recitation by Mr Ooltman, a stump speech by Mr Bulnois, and several selections by Mr A dance was held afterwards to which a good number stayed, and which was kept up with great spirit until the small hoars of tho morning. To the ladies of Timaru and surrounding district.— Another reduction to meet the times. A cup of tea or coffee with o»ke supplied at all hours at the Railway Refreshment Rooms for fld. Luncheon as usual. A waitress in attendance for ladies. The Shilling Lunches still continue at tho-Club Hotel. D.
