TIMARU MARKETS. The following are the quotations for the past week:—Prime milling wheat (velvet and tuscan), 3« Gd to 3s 7d; red chaff, 3s sd; whole fowl feed, ?s 6d to 2s 10d; broken, 2a. Oats —Prime milling, Is 7d; short feed, Is 5d to la 61 ; long feed, la 2d to Is 3d. Poatoes, 20s to 22s 6d per ton. DUNEDIN PBODfJOE MARKETS. The following is the report for the Week ending Wednesday : Wheat—The. market for oil descriptions is exceedingly quiet, the tendency being towards lower price. Is 8 J—a shade m ore for extra good ; best bright feed, Is to Is 8d ; medium, Is 7d to Is 7£d ; inferior to medium, 1b to is 6d ; long oats only in moderate request in small lots, and must be bright. Barley—Owing to the want nf supplies, business is almost at a standstill. Best malting is worth 4s Id to 4s 4d ; medium, 3s 9d to 4s ; feed »nd milling, 3s to 3s 8d (ex store). Ryegrass Seed—The market is still inactive. Small sales are beiDg made at the following prices : —For machinedressud old pasture, 3a 6d to 4s ; medium, 3s 3d to 3s 6& ; farmers' undressed, 2s to 3s (sa«ks extra). Cooksfoot is moving off slowly at from 4|d to 5d for best—3-|d to 4-|d for medium. Chaff—There is no quotable change, and good lots of oaten 6heaf are still saleable at £2 15s; medium, £2 10*. Pf.tatoes—The market conlinups quiet at 30s to 35s for Southern, and 37s 6d to £2 for Northern dements. Kidneys are wanted for 6eed at £3 5a lo £3 10s. Turnips, 14s to 15s. C&rrots, 20s to 25s (bags extra).
Butter—Prime salt (in kegs) 5d to 6d ; inferior to medium, 3d to 4d ; fresh, plentiful at 6d, Eggs—7£d per doz.
Sheepskins—On Monday country dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought lOd to 8s 4d ; good to best, 3s 6d to 4s lOd ; dry merinos, low to medium, 9d to 2s 5d ; good to best, 2s 6d to 4s 4d ; dry pelts, 3J to 7d ; butchers' green crossbreds, 3s 7d to 5s 2d ; do do merino, 2s 6d to 3s 9d. Hides—Quotations are as follow: For inferior and bulls', to 2d ; light, 2£<l to 2§d ; medium, 2fd to 3|d ; heavy, 3|<l to 3fd ; 4d is occasionally paid for extra choice lot?. Tallow—Quotations are: For best mutton, 17s to 18s ; medium to good, 148 to 16s ; inferior and mixed, 10s to 13s; rough fat, inferior, 6s to 7s; medium to good, 8s to 9s; best caul fat, fresh, 10s to lis per cwt.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.
> Adelaide, Hept. 2. The s.s. Yarra, which arrived yesterday from Marseilles, brings Mauritius news to July 29th, under which date Ireland, Fraser and Co. report:—" The weather has been favorable for the crops. The ship "Western Belle, which sailed for Lyttelton on June 11th, had returned to Mauritius in a leaky condition, with the cargo damaged. Exchange on New Zealand sixty days, bank credits 43 per cent. The stock of sugar in band is 9700 tons. The exports, this season, to New Zealand to date amount to 4000 tons. Sydney, August 20. Owing to the heavy weather along the coast, small supplies were received from the northern and southern rivers. Trade, as is usual on Saturdays, wcs of no importance, and the principal lines of produce were unchanged iq values. Quotations fire as follow ; Bacon—Dull. Hand-cured, 6d to 6£d ; machine-cured, 4|d to s|d ', aud New Zauland, 6d to 7d per lb. > Birley—Small inquiry. Cape seed, 3s to 3s 31 per bushel. Bran -Demund maintained at 8J to B|d per buihe'. Butter— sorts in keg selling at Is to 1p 31 ; roll sorts, Is 21 to Js 4d ; fac-tory-made, to la 4d per lb. Chaff-On the wharves best Adelaide and Victoiian sorts realised £4 to £5 5s per ton. Choose—Good supplies. Colonial, 3d to 4J ; loaf, 5d to 01 per lb. Uurns Neglected. Colonial, 6d to 7d ; Now Z;alnnd, 10s to lid per lb. Hay—Prim3 Hunter River lucerne in small request at 60s to 655; inferior, from 20--) per ton. Oits—Steady demand. Prime feed, 2i 2d to 2a 3d ; inferior, from 2s por bushel. Onions—Firm. Victorian, £3 15s to £4 por ton. Peas—Active. Common blue boiling Borts, 4s to 4s 3d ; grey sorts, 3s 6d per bushel. Pollard—V"e«k at 8d to BJd per bushel. Potiiloes—No ch'ntge. Circulars, £2 10a to £2 15s ; New Zealand, £2 to £2 5s per ton. JBlDirsY, Sept. 2. New Zealand wheat; is quoted at 8s 3d to 3s 6d; New Zealand oats, 2s to 2s 3d j maize, 3s 6d.
ENGLISH MARJTETS. LOKDON, Sept. 1. The Directors of the Bank of England to-day raised the rate of discount to 4 per cent. Sept. 3. The wheat market is steadier, but American prices are stronger. Californian wheat is recovering from the recent fall. Numerous foreign and off coast cargoes have maintainor! reoeot quotations. Australian shipments, px granary, are selling at 345; ex ship 6<J less. The recent galea have immensely damaged the Kentish hop crops, but reports of the yield from the Cuntin-nt are favorable, Sept. 4. Colonial breadstuff's are quoted as follows :—Adelaide wheat, ex store, 345. New Zealand ditto, 31s to 335, according to quality. Adelaide flour, ex store, 21s. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,930,000 quarters, and. for the Continent 356,000 quarters. Australian tallow, average quality, beef 23s 6d, mutton 255.
