RANGITATA AND GLADSTONE ELECTION.

LADY YODEL’S CURTAINS. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —An untruthful statement is being freely circulated which is likely to damage Sir Julius Yogel in the ears of Electors. It has befen said that in these hard times of great depression Curtains were ordered for Lady Vogel's drawing room at the public expense, costing the large sum of £2OO. I have made it my business to enquire if there is any truth in the above, and I have it from the best authority that it is not correct. The window blinds and curtains in Lady Vogel’s house (not in the drawing room alone) would not cost Fifty Pounds. - Please to give this as wide a circa* lation as possible, so as to enable all Electors to see what sensational electioneering stories are being spread without any foundation whatever ;. and I do hope now that those electors who are prejudiced Against Sir Julius Yogel will turn round and be his strongest supporters,--! am, etc., 0. G. T»»pi Orari Gorge, Woodbury, August 26th, 1887. [We have it from another source that the story about the window curtains neyer had any foundation in fact. Lies of this kind never do much barm. People understand iihat they are told for. elect!sneering purposes, and consequently set no value on them. Still, Mr Tripp’s letter comes in very opportunely. We know where lies are being manufactured wholesale at present, and the people would do well to inquire into the truth of what they hear before giving it credence. The people know by this time the value of 1 electioneering cfies.-rTiE Editor.] >*£
