Mr Yesey Stewart will not arrive in time for the elections, and Messrs Kelly and Gill are the only two candidates for the Tauranga seat. Information haa been received by Ihe Mines Department that an assay at the Thames School of Mines of stone from the new find, Hikulaia, gave 186ozs of gold and 25000za of silver to the ton. Duncan Battyn was arrested at Masterton on T' a rad ay evening for stabbing the barman -t the Club Hotel with . knife. The barm m was forcibly expelling Battyn from the Mlliard room, when Battjn drew fchs knife and wounied him-slightijjm the < thigh. He has been remanded.
