AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARtT. Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows ; Property—He submitted various farms on Saturday last, and although owners’ reserves were very reasonable indeed, bid* dings did not touch them, and no busi* ness was done at the sale. Washdyke Saleyarda—A moderate entry only of stock came forward for the last sale, and there was a noticeable absence of anything prime, either in beef or mutton. He sold 162 crossbred hoggets at 7h 3Jd, 199 ewes and wethers at 9s 6d, 155 at 10s 3d, 144 at 10s 6d, 2 steers at £5 ss, and a springer at £5 17s fid. Sheepskins—At his last fortnightly sale he cleared the whole of an extensive catalogue to che numeroos buyers present at such prices as to satisfy vendors. He sold merinos at Is 4d to 3s 8d ; crossbreds, 2s to 6s 4d ; lambs at Is 9d ; pelts, 6d ; bides, 2Jd to 3jd ; fat at last quotations.
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, Augi 18. The Antwerp wool sales opened yesterday. Good quality River Plate wools have declined five centimes; inferior sorts ten centimes. Australian : wools will be offered to-morrow.. Aug. 20. Colonial breadstuffs remain at the following quotations: Adelaide wheat, ex store, 34a 6d ; New Zealand, 33s to 36s ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 24a. The total quantity of. wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,260.000 quarters, and for the Continent 510,000 quarters. Australian tallow, average quality— Beef, 235: mutton, 235. New Zealand frozen mutton remains at 4d per lb for prime quality. Aug. 21. There was a large attendance at the opening of the Antwerp sales on Wednesday. Prices declined jd to Jd on the May sales. Helmuth, Schwartz and Co. report on prospects of the September sales in London that the market is dull and the stocks light, and that probably prices will remain unchanged. The sale will open with 280,000 bales available for disposal, including 55,000 from the Cape. Copper is animated, and quoted at 45«. An off-coasfc cargo of wheat per Mountain Lamel has been sold for 33$ 3*. The ship Dumbarton has been ordered to Dublin, 31s 6d being declined for her cargo. Aug. 23. Four thousand one hundred biles of Australian wool have been sold at the Antwerp sales at. a below the c’osing rates of last London auction. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated 19th August ; Tallow is in good demand, Mutton and beef tallows have advanced fid and 3d per owt, respectively since last report. The Native ichoolhouse at Waherou, Southland, has been burned down. Incendiarism is suspected. The Native children have been for some time attending the State , school.
