MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Board wag held in the Road Board office, Peel Forest, oi Friday, the 19tb inst. Present—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs R. Thew, R. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, and C. G. Tripp. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. TENDERS. Tenders for No. 12 contract, shingling Tripp’s Road, were opened as fo'lows : George Hamond, £53; Patrick Burke, £SO; Timothy Sugrue, £49 ; George Rae, £43 (accepted). COKBESPONDENCB. The following correspondence was read and considered . From the Commissioner of Property Tax, stating that a voucher had been forwarded to the Treasury for the payment of £42 5s sd, balance of subsidy on rates under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act. From the Treasury, informing the Board that the sum of £42 5s 5d had been paid to its credit with the Union Sink of Australia, Tiraaru, balance of subsidy on rates. From the Geraldine County Council enclosing cheque for £42 5s sd, balance of the Government subsidy on rates collected in the district. From the Union Bank of Australia, advising the Board of the renewal of fixed deposit. From the Survey Office, Christchurch, in reference to the proposed alteration of road line in the Timaru Borough Council Reserve, stating that the District Surveyor’s report cannot bo obtained at present owing to his absence from the district. From Mr J. Hitch, requesting the Board to improve the road to his land at Raincliff.—The Clerk was directed to reply stating that th* Board is in communication with the Government upon the matter of a new road, but it is not yet in a posi'ion to do any work. From Messrs Whitcombs a d Tomb*, enclosing a prospectus of a new map of Canterbury.— Resolved that a copy of the in p be obtained. From Mr 0. N. Brookes, quoting price foi poisoned grain. Fi»ra the Hon. Mr Wig'ey, ctiling the Board’s attention to the state of the Opuha crossing on the Raincliif Road, as he had met wah a seiious accident in
crossing the river at that ford. —The Overseer was instructed to have the ford repaired. From Mr Mitton, requesting permission to place a gate across the road at the north end of Peel Forest.—Permission was granted. RESOLUTIONS. Proposed by Mr Thew, seconded by Mr Tripp, and carried—“ That all resolutions passed by the Board appear in the minutes with the names of proposer and seconder, instead of ‘resolved’ only.” ABANDONED ROAD. The Overseer reported that be hud arranged with Messrs Taylor and Flatmnn as to the price of the abandoned road in the Peel Forest, and that he had instructed Messrs White and Co. to make out necessary conveyance. INSTRUCTIONS, The Overseer was instructed to attend to the following things :—(1) To apply to the Surveyor-General for a copy of the Government report upon forest tree planting and other matters ; (2) to look over the several plantations and use his own discretion in pruning and thinning, and to have gorse grubbed ; (3) to inspect the Clayton stock bridge, and have it protected if necessary ; (4) to repair the protective works in the creek below Mr Dennistoun's house. After passing accounts to the amount of £lO4 4s Id, the Board adjourned.
